Oxygen sensor (behind cat) advice

I just got a check engine light with the error code being for the O2 sensor behind the catalytic converter.

My (previous) favorite dealer will replace it for $725 and my local shop won't give me a quote until, "they diagnose it." I don't own jacks, but this is looking like a pretty good excuse to get some because the repair looks straight forward and would save a lot of money.

Does it matter if I go with OME/Bosch? Any experience?

If I keep driving it, am I risking killing the cat? That is one repair I really don't want to have to do.

your gas millage will suffer a lil bit... you may want to have an independent shop replace it, just let them know what you want when you approach them

I had it replaced by a local shop for $90 labor only. It is pretty easy if you are handyman. If you want to save your self some money then do it, just go to Auto zone and rent their O2 tool and a jack lol. If you dont want all that mess then order the O2 yourself and bring to a reputable shop and ask for a quote first. Make sure to get the O2 yourself, don't let the shop get it for you because they will charge you $300+ just for the O2 along. I don't know if it matter if you go will OEM or aftermarket. I bought the Beck Arney and it still working fine. Good luck.

I had to replace this sensor on my 2000 RL a few years ago. It was easy with an O2 sensor socket and the car jacked up. The wire connector is under the passenger seat. I got a sensor from a store made by the company that makes the OEM sensor. I think it was Denso? Worked for several years until I crashed the car.

Did it at the local shop after I realized I don't have a lot to work in. Went to the local shop and They did it for $300, including OEM part they ordered. Oddly, they wouldn't let me order the part. They said this is because the have found that about 1/4 of the parts they order these days are DOA.

Thanks for the tips.
