Mobil 1 0w-30 vs 5w-30 (fully synthetic)
I live in Minnesota. Is there any danger in switching from 5w-30 to 0w-30 during the winter months for my 99 RL? Or use it all year round. The price is the same for both oil. I am not looking for better mileage but better or same engine protection with 5w-30. Thanks.

a really good question!
i dunno if i would use that, 0ws are usually used in hybrids to reduce starting friction because the engines shut off and start up often, they are made of lower friction engine internals and made with drastically different tolerances than our rather old fasioned engines
what i worry about is our oil delivery path, ie does the oil flow from the oil pan up through the engine internals or does it get pumped to the top and flow down, and if its the flow down type, is there places for oil to sit and pool till the engine starts again,
because i dont know the answers, i would advise against using a 0w and recommend staying with 5w to be on the safe side. i personally use 5w in the winter and 10w in the summers here in the sf bay area

Thanks pmendoza502. I know Honda is now recommending 0w-20 for their cars that were using 5w-20. I am thinking the important number is the second number. As long as they are the same, it should be ok.
