What year is your rl? H1 bulbs should fit fine with an adapter like this one:

I had a similar problem and someone on here helped me solve the issue

Do you have 99+ model? 96-98 don't have fog, they are integrated into the yellow high beam. Try that H1 adpater and report back lol

Thanks! That looks really nice. I wish I could get someone to put in some LS projectors for my RL, don't really feel like going thru the whole baking process...

Not at the moment, but I have some more adapters coming in and my old lenses I took out, so i could probably take a few pics once the adapters come in.

You don't have need to bake in the oven, I used the heatgun lol. Sure it takes longer but it is a lots safer than the oven.

Made a little tutorial...

Okay, so I received the adapters in the mail and I'll show you how to deploy them. I know this might be self-explanatory for a lot of people, but for others here you go.....

1:
Okay so we have our H1 bulb and 1 H1 adapter

2:
We want to put the wires thru the little slice in the adapter, use a flat-head screw driver and twist it to make the opening bigger if you have to

3:
Align the slice and the ceramic tube on the HID bulb so the slice on the adapter is facing up and the ceramic tube is facing down. In other words, the bulb and adapter should be positioned as in the below picture.

4:
When your ready, slide the bulb into the adapter in the same position you had it (in the above picture). The outcome should look like this....

NOTE:
It is important that the protruding dots are on either side of the slice like this. That way, it makes it easy to slide into the housing....

5:
Once you have your bulb set up, look at the back of your fog light housing. (if you can, ideally you should take your fog light housing out of your car, it's easy to do). You should see two small holes. This is where the protruding dots will fit in, nice and snug.

6:
Once you have the bulb and the dots in the two holes, all that's left is to put the retaining clip around the two wings of the adapter. (I don't have the retaining clips anymore, as these are an old pair of housings, but you get the point). Make sure the bulbs are snug. Then you can put the rubber waterproof boot on the just as you normally would, install the lens back into the car, plug in the bulbs and VIOLA!!

Piece of cake!

If you have any more questions just let me know.

Thanks!

If you use the adapters I used, there should be a mm or 2 from the end of the bulb to the metal diffuser, I'm not sure if the above adapter will work due to those extensions on each wing. The extensions might bush the bulb too far out of the housing and you won't be able to put the retaining clip around it.

I use DDM Tuning 3000K H1 kits for the fogs.....(the lights I was using above was NOT from a DDM kit however).

I use DDM kits on my car... but i just took the plastic "C" ring they use in the packaging of the wiring / bulb and installed the bulb, and used the "C" ring behind the bulb and then used the metal pressure clamp to hold it in... I've done this on all the fog light setups on the RL's over the years and never had a problem.

Just my 2 pennies.

Very true, I didn't realize you could do this until a few days ago. Either way works I suppose, of course I wanted as much protection from water as possible as I don't have fenderliners on the front anymore.

I want to lower my RL more as well, but that requires removing the liners and getting all the gravel and s*** on the road stuck in my door jambs and such isn't an option, I'm looking into a way to modify the liners to keep them in on the rear side of the fenders and still drop the car and not having to worry about them
