I split your post from the AC thread in 2G RL because your 2004 is a 1G RL. You will get more appropriate answers here.

well, when you press the a/c on off button while the engine is running do you feel anything clicking/engaguing, or nothing happens at all?

if nothing happens it sounds liek a fuse, it's an easy check...i beleive it's located by your hood release lever, pull the fuse cover off, on the back of it there's a diagram of all the fuses, locate the a/c fuse and check it....i've had it happen in my old 1990 Honda Accord and when i replaced the fuse it was running fine again...although there is always a good reason why a fuse would burn out...so there might be something else wrong, i think my case was that a lower front turn signal fell off, got broken, and the wires shorted, and that somehow blew my a/c fuse too....

nevertheless, if u're talking new compressor i would imagine with labor it'll get up to about $500 (if necessary to change), but then again, can't you wait til like march or april? is it really that hot in LA? I'm in vegas and i'm freezing my ass off, it's 32 degrees right now.

You could try to get it repaired under Goodwill conditions at your local Acura dealer. Maybe they'll do it for free or split the charges
