Change transmission fluid on 02 RL with 100k

Whats the feeling regarding having the gearbox flushed on a 10 year old car with 100k on the ticker.
Some mechanics feel it can open a can of worms. Has anyone had problems with their RL after a fluid change?

don't do a power flush as that has been know to cause problems. It's easy to do a "drain and fill" by removing the drain plug, about 3+ qts will drain out, then refill carefully to proper level. This only removes about 1/3 of the total fluid so drive it several miles, going thru all gears to mix old and new fluid, then repeat the drain and fill. Use Honda/Acura trans fluid.

I bought my 98 RL with 148k miles, did 3 drain and fills and was amazed at how much it smoothed out the shifts. Now at 210k miles with no problems. I do a single drain and fill every other oil change (so at 10k miles).

I've done this on both an 01 and a 99 with around 100K miles with no ill effects. I did a 3x drain and fill.

Drain and Fill. Bought mine with 181K, trans had never been serviced. It had a firm shift. Did the Drain and Fill X3 and it shifts way smooth now.

Have you serviced your tranny yet? Was 10 quarts of fluid enough for three drain/fills?

3X drain and refills...... just want to make sure I understand this before attempting myself. The Owners Manual (pg. 238) says:

"....the technician should drain and refill it with Honda ATF-Z1 (Automatic Transmission Fluid), then drive the vehicle a short distance. Do this three times. Then drain and refill the transmission a final time."

I interpret this as a total of four drains and refills.... ?? Is the general consensus that three times is enough, or am I missing something?

I did 3x after buying mine with 148k miles on it. Greatly smoothed out the shifting. I also do a single drain and fill every other oil changes (ie every 10k miles). This takes *very* little extra time when already doing an oil change.

Now at 210k miles and shifts perfectly.
