break-in mileage after 90k maintenance
Own a 96 RL. Went to the Acura dealership for the 90k mile tune-up and everything was great. Two days ago, took the car for a smog check and the car failed with the Malfunction Light Indicator. The tech said that I have to drive the car for some time or to "let the computer" reset. I don't know how long or how far should I go for the computer to "re-boot".
Any ideas???

Check Engine Light 1996 Acura RL
I spoke to several technicians about this and they seem to feel around 200 miles is enough to see if light will come back on...I have the same car and the same mileage and I just had the check engine light issue too...
... here's what I learned- this model has a manufacture recall for a computer chip that is causing light to go on due to Emisions related isseus - around EGR valve. I contacted Acura 1-800-382-2283- they opend up a case for me...with this I could go to an Acura dealer and get the chip replaced for free...along with a free servicing (oil and sparkplugs).
I was able to get Acura to reimburse me for all related expences I had trying to get the Check Engine light to go Off...about $450. Acura was very good about it...I just needed all receipts.
Other issues: Rear Window motors (I've read a few blogs stating the same), Air conditioning Compressor and Driver Side door handle. The first 2 are covered by warranty...not the handle.

1996 and 1997 RL's are part of an EPA emissions warranty. If you have any problems, such as your EGR valve giving you problems, you can take it in and fixed for free. This warranty expires at 150,000 miles.
