Talking blacking out the headlights (97)

Hey guys first thread on acurazine be gentle
decided i would black out the headlight housing after finding that there are no aftermarket options.
you could always order JDM ones off ebay but i decided to try somthing different.

not that difficult a process as i thought.
started off removing the bumper (6 bolts, 5 clips)
2 bolts are on either side where the bumper and wheel well meet.
4 bolts hold the splash guard underneath and 5 clips between the headlights
do this carefully as clips tend to brake and depending n the cars history may have never been removed.
then just lift slightly and pull toward you

you can remove the headlight bulb, parking bulb and fog bulb at this point
then removing the headlight (4 bolts each)
2 above the headlight and two below
once the headlight is loose you can remove the side marker and turn signal bulb.

and eventually your car will look like a frankenstine.

make sure you remove all retaining clips, screws. bulbs and the yellow reflector from the fog housing.
there are 3 screws for alignment make sure you dont fuck with them or you will have to fix it when you reinstall.
now set you oven at LOWEST temp should be arnd 100C or 200F
and wrap one of your racks in foil.

and let them bake for 10-12 minutes.

NOTE: after fucking up and getting a nice melt mark i relized that if you place oven mits on the rack instead of placing them onto the foil it works alot better. and the gloves dont burn so its all good.

anyways
at this point the glue will be melted so use a flat head screw driver to GENTLY pry them apart dont force it, start from the top and slowly work your way around. at a certain point you will relieze you can grab the lens and remove it from the backing and it should look like this.

you should now place this somewhere clean and out of the way so it dosent get miss aligned ect.

i forgot to take a picture but there are two screws in the lens that hold the housing in place remove these and the housing should slide free.
if it dosent use your flat head to, AGAIN GENTLY, seperate the two

now your housing has 2 amber reflectors one for your side marker and one for your signal.
remove both the signal is 1 screw and the side marker just pops out.

i used rustcheck flat black to paint it, but i hear if you use a duplicolor paint it works just as well.

i used 2 coats and let it sit for about 45 minutes before i touched it. make sure you get all angles.
Note: i blacked out my turn signal housing but you can mask this off to get more light if you like but i personally didnt mind.

then puting it all back together is pretty simple.
reflectors in,
screw the housing back into the lens push the lens and backing backing back together.
and bake for another 10 minutes to get the glue moving again.
remove and use clamps or vise grips to hold the edges together.
then place in the oven again for an additional 5 minutes.

after this you should be good to go.
(i would let the headlight sit for about an hour or so just to make sure everything is secure)
reinstall and enjoy!!
Before and after.

Oh nice, I wish the lens on our car are clear! I used a heat gun to open my headlights when I did a retrofit to them. I don't want to melt the headlight lol. BTW, you have WingWest too. I really like the lip. Do you have any more pics of your car?
