I have done a search and read that the drive, drain, fill, drive, drain, and fill again is the preferred method for the pre 99 RLs. However, my local Acura dealer recommends that I do the 100% fluid transfer method using the machine method.
What do you recommend for my 99 RL? I am getting a bit of a rough upshift on 1 to 2. It is not noisy or even that noticeable, but I just bought the car and am not sure if the 1st 2 owners ever serviced the tranny fluid. Thanks.

I'm in the same situation. I can usually feel the 1-2 shift, and sometimes 3-4, especially when the transmission gets warmed up. I'm due for a tranny fluid change soon and debating whether I should just change the fluid or do a complete flush (or drive, drain, fill, etc. method). I'm not sure if the flush would make it smoother, or if this just normal for an 11-year-old tranny with over 200k. Any thoughts?

I took my RL into Acura and paid the $139 for the complete tranny flush and service. The tranny feels smoother than before, but I can still feel a bit of roughness on the 1 to 2 shift. The Acura service tech told me they used to do the drive, drain, fill 3 times before they developed the new machine.
