'98 Acura RL Starter/Imobilizer/Electrical Question
My younger brother just turned 16 and bought his own car. He went with a '98 RL, as they have amazing owner reviews online. The catch is he bought it from the DC Auto Impound Lot.
The car came with a clear title, but no keys. The Locksmith cut a new key for it, but couldn't get the 'Green Light' from the Immobilizer to come on. It turns out the previous owner tried to install a aftermarket alarm system and possibly remote start. The mechanic my brother took it to 'took out the aftermarket wires and reverted it back to stock'....unfortunately they still can't get the 'Green Light' to turn on so the key can be programmed.
The car body is perfect, no rust, and the car fax shows it was very well maintained throughout its ownership. The mechanic is saying it would be 'too expensive and not worth it' to try to find out what the problem is, but I thought I'd post here to see what others' thoughts are. Anyone have any ideas, or agree that we should try to sell it to a junk yard and try to cut our losses?
