96-98 rl hid install
i just bought my 97 rl back in march i want to add hids to it but i keep reading about conversion kit. my question is what kit do i use and what parts? thanks

Well the RL's low beams are already HID (xenon), but they're home-service unfriendly and the manual asks you to take it to a shop. If you want to replace the bulb yourself get a D2R bulb.
The other lights like fog and high beam are both traditional. These can benefit from those HID kits you buy online. I have an HID kit in the foglights right now but it's really bright and I'm considering moving them to the high beams where it's bright anyway.
The fogs and highs are both the H1 type so buy that kit. It'll come with a ballast, which is a box that does the power converting, and the wiring to the light itself. It will look complicated at first but all the connections are specific so you can't screw them up. I suggest mounting the ballast box on the splash guard near the radiator, this is what I did and it looks good plus no rain will get on it, I don't quite trust the waterproof labeling.

96-98 has halogen lows. HID were added in 99.
You can get a kit but you may make other drivers unhappy. See this thread:
