96-98 / 96-04 Acura RL suspension options...

What are my options. I've been doing some reasearch, but I haven't found much to use for these cars and I'm looking to drop it a bit and get the car to not "float and sway" down the highway... and I need to lose the body roll a bit.

What are some options

Thank you

I said 96-98 / 96-04 because I wasn't sure if there was a change or anything between the years, so I figured I'd clarify and make sure.

It seems like using TL parts works well with using TL forks... Thank you for the link, I will look into it here in a minute or two.

suspension is the same for 96-04.

there is a slight difference in strut valving and spring rates through the years but physically they are the same size n shape.

I should mention that in the 2002+ years the RL receive stiffer springs, better valved struts, bigger sway bars, and harder suspension mounts. I've been told it's a night and day difference between the pre @R and the 02+ RL's

oh and the link I posted says I used 91-95 Legend parts not TL.

if you look all the way at the bottom of the post it says people are successfully using tein basics and the likes for the TSX on the RL.

Yep, '02 - '04 RL suspension is dramatically different (far less roll and float)

This is definitely going to to be a tough choice on what I want to do. I want to drop it, but not so much ruin the excellent ride quality, but from what I read on OLD HATCH's write up, I want more than a 1/4" drop.

actually I'm lowered about 1-3/8" in the front and 1" in the rear. The tutorial states what was needed.

you have a choice of where you want the grooves machined to lower your car.

car rides great. A little more damping force keeps the travel in check.

I'll most likely get flamed for asking this but has anyone cut coils off to lower it? I've got an extra set of OEM springs and I was thinking of cutting a coil just to give it a little drop until I can afford a full suspension.

You cannot.

The very last coil at either end is smaller in diameter so if you even tried to cut half a coil it would no longer fit in the spring perch and cause you more problems than you will ever need.

Damn. Welp - thanks for the heads up. I'm trying to find the easiest way to lower this thing. Everyone I've talked to comments on "bagging it" and I don't want all the problems related with air ride. I want to be able to take it to a shop, tell them to install some springs and be done with it.

H&R part number 29844-2. Lowers 30mm (about 1-1/4")

Only H&R Europe has this part number and H&R USA will not import it.

Its 8-10% stiffer than oem Euro Legend Ka9 (RL) springs, which we believe are the 02-04 springs here. (223 lb/in front spring rate, 103 lb/in rear spring rate)

Easiest way is to get on Ebay Europe and find a seller willing to ship to US. (4-6weeks wait time usually)

Average price shipped was about 365.00 US dollars.

Can you tell I've researchd this a little.

LOL! Your keyboard searching skills have benefitted me. I'm now searching for a set. Is there anything similar that lowers this boat 2.0?

There are some Japan company made springs like aimgain and some other ones but those are harder to get and after shipping will probably run in the 600+range.

Another way would be to use either 91-95 Legend coilovers or 1st gen TSX coilovers. Usually about 800 give or take depending brand or who you know. either one will have its special little extras to fit properly. so it wont be cheap

or you might be able to use 91-95 Legend springs or coilovers like ground control to get you to the 2" mark.

Would these be a straight swap type thing or would modding be required?

I believe they would be a straight swap, but being the RL is 500 lbs heavier than the Legend so the drop minght not be accurate when just using springs.

The lower spring perches are exactly the same and it appears the top of the springs are the same diameter which would allow you to use the RL tophats on the springs.

Thanks dude! I'm looking into ordering a set of GC's now. Hopefully this baby will be minus the tire gap sooner then I hoped.
