04 Acura Rl - changing transmission fluid
I am thinking of changing my transmission fluid and filter, I would like to do it myself, what type of fluid and filter would you recommend? Seems pretty straight forward but is there any thing I need to know before proceeding? thanks Jay O.

tranny does not have a serviceable filter. correct methoed would be to drain and refill with Honda/Acura ATF drive a short distance and then repeat.
Timing belt, water pump, cooling system flush, all belts, replace any seals if necessary.
I say 800 give or take, but more than likely plus.

I changed my transmission filter. I bought mine off rockauto. The dealership told me it doesnt have one but rock auto had it listed so i figured id change it. In the service manual you can see it...they call it an ATF strainer. My strainer came with a new pan gasket, but it didnt fit correctly so i just loaded the old one with RTV...hasnt leaked a drop. Its not hard at all...draining the pan then dropping it...and then three bolts on the strainer. I bought the ATF from Honda and i did notice a difference in my shifting afterwards...but my transmission had 165K miles on it and im sure that was the original strainer.

I just finished doing what old_hatch said. Drain, fill, drive and repeat. It was simple and inexpensive.
As for the t-belt. I'm in the process of getting that done. My parts list is as follows:
1. water pump $259.37
2. water pump gasket $2.35
3. drive belt tensioner $74.10
4. balancer belt $25.67
5. alt belt $19.89
6. p/s belt $19.26
7. cam shaft seal $12.88
8. crank shaft seal $12.88
and my tech told me I needed to get a throttle body gasket ($4.70) since he's going to be taking alot of it apart.
I got all my parts failry cheap from http://estore.honda.com/asp/logon.asp?bhcp=1
They allow you to shop local acura dealers for the best price. After I got the parts, I paid a friend who works at honda and used to work at acura 200 bucks to do the job.
