Recommendations Needed for Tires and Struts

Hello everyone, I am looking into doing some maintenance work to my 2012 RDX which is approaching 90k miles. I am looking into a new suspension system. Not looking to lower the car at all, just want to increase handling/comfort. Any recommendations in regards to this? Also, what other parts should I be changing while I have everything apart? I was thinking bushings...looking for some guidance.
https://www.kseriesparts.com/suspens...l&universal=no

I am also grabbing an extra pair of 18" OEM rims but looking to put winter tires on these, what do you guys suggest?

there isnt anything on the market that increases handling but doesnt lower. Perhaps BC coilovers make a coilover for the RDX and then you can choose not to lower it, although it will lower it some as the shock shaft is physically smaller than stock.

and then for tires; it's completely SUBJECTIVE to the user....what do you want out of your tires??? are you okay with all season tires, or do you want to step up to a more sportier SUV tire? what do you want out of a tire?

If you want the stock ride height get the new stock shocks.

If you want better handling replace your endlinks in the rear, as well as a progress rear sway bar to give you sporty handling.

If you want stock wheels and want winter tires on them you should go with the Goodyear Assurance Weather Ready tires.

Do Not get a quickstrut or auto parts store strut set, the mounting hardware is inferior and will not properly allow the aftermarket strut mount to the vehicle and will rattle like crazy... My Honda dealer recommended we use AutoZone struts because he (service advisor) said they work the same and cost less and he has awyays used them... Worked for a couple of months, then started rattling... After 10k miles it was unberable and we brought it in expecting it to be something else, but it was the struts again... All it was was an annoying rattle, but they were junk... My service advisor, not the guy who said to get the quickstruts, worked out a deal where we only paid for the parts and not the labor...

Immediately after the new struts, my steering was super tight and heavy again, it had been driving like a Buick for well over a year at this point... Now, over last summer, I had the tie rods, tie rod endlinks, and sway bar end links replaced, abd that made the steering tight and persice, then the OEM struts made it stiff and heavy... Car feels new again at 232K miles!!!

Coilovers seeem like a good idea too... Mrgold35 has a nice 2008 RDX and may chime in soon if he already hasn't...

I have the BC Racing coil overs, I don’t recommend them if you like the stock suspension feeling.

I like them but their not as soft as the stock suspension but not at brutal as lowering springs.

You can tuck your tires with them or raise them higher than stock probably. Their are so many adjustments to them.

You can also make them as hard or soft as you want too. You can even adjust the responsiveness of them.

Well I didn't want to go stock just because I imagine aftermarket are better quality. I honestly feel like the stock ones aren't all that absorbent when it comes to ride comfort. I know it's not comparing apples to apples but my fiancees Lexus NX200T is so smooth but it is also a couple years newer than my RDX. I basically want to improve the ride comfort of my car and would like to try something other than stock. Maybe I'll go with BC coil overs and adjust them to my liking even though I'll have absolutely no clue on how to do that. I appreciate all the replies so far though.

In regards to tires I am looking for winter tires only. I have a new set of rims with no tires on them and would like to get a dedicated set of winter and summer tire set.

Do you have the dimensions in the rims? I usually check out tire rack, no affiliation and no I’m not selling anything...

Also, check out my thread in the performance categories I have various pictures of the coilovers compared to stock on the floor. Also, if them installed on my vehicle. It’s title this thread is going to be hella lit.

If you go aftermarket, stick to name brand like Koni or something... Whatever you do, do NOT get sonething like Monroe Quickstruts.... That might be good for a beater Civic, not an RDX...

Just checked out your thread, cool build btw.

In regards to the BC coilovers, it definitely looks like your car dropped some just judging from the wheel well space not to mention the parts themselves are shorter.

For the rims, they are the stock 18" 2012 RDX wheels, nothing fancy.

For summer tires I guess the only decent choice on tire rack for 235/55-R18 are the PIRELLI P ZERO (PZ4) with the possibility of CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 even though they are all-season tires

As far as winter tires go, I have it narrowed down to:
YOKOHAMA ICEGUARD IG51V

BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK DM-V2

MICHELIN LATITUDE X-ICE XI2

Hmmm... I thought that the Conti Extreme Contact DWS 206 was a 4 season tire???

Oh, ok, I see it now... I hear they're great... I have the Michelin Premiers on my Kia Optima, and so far, I love them... Plan to get a set on my RDX, but I'm way down in south MS, but still, we had snow twice last year... And I slid twice with my Bridgestone Duhler Alanza H/L tires... I want so something a little better next time...

Yeah, I have mine lowered about half way down. You can up up more or down more the way I have them now I’m basically in the middle. I have it adjusted to where it doesn’t bottom out at all.

Thanks, for the compliment, I hope to update it soon once I install all of these other parts.

So I've settled on the BC Coilovers and plan to buy them within the next few days but can someone tell me what the difference is between the two types they offer other than the fact that one is $225 more than the other lol

https://www.kseriesparts.com/BCC-A-56-BR.html

https://www.kseriesparts.com/BCC-A-56-RM.html

As far as snow tires go, I ended up going with Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2. Should be getting them installed today.

Looks like it boils down to BR vs RM... RM versions being a little lighter and a slightly better overall design to BR... IDK personally, but I carefully read the descriptions and found this to be the only difference...

Here is a Mazda forum explaining the difference...

https://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=832082

Also, a Google search of BC Coilovers BR vs RM should be helpful...

But basically, BR is for street and RM is more track capabile! If I were buying coilovers, id just go RM and have it all!

Last but not least, coilovers for the RDX seem expensive, dang... I've seen good coilovers for TL's going for $5-800... And even $450 for an Accord...

But, these seem to be a lot better in quality and adjustability!!!

Looks good!!!

Best of luck!!!

Thanks Midnight, I think that answers that question. It looks like kpartseries may be having a cyber Monday sale on bc coilovers so I'll check for them then.

Going back to tires, so I got the blizzaks put on yesterday and first impressions, I must say they're awesome. Anyways, I was looking into summer tires but I was wondering, what other tire sizes can I get to keep within spec of the speedo? Again, I have 18" wheels and have the recommended 235/55 for my all seasons and winter tires.

I have the BC Racing Coilovers for the RDX. I have them installed as well as photos of the comparison to stock suspension on my thread if you want to see it.

I’ll send you the link to their official site, they only make one kit for the RDX by the way.
