20" MRR HR2 - Which tire size?
Hi guys,
Sorry for starting a new thread, but I would like to have your feedback about tire size.
I'll buy 20x8.5 MRR HR2 wheels and I hesitate for the tire size. I do not want something smaller than original diameter (28.17 in - 715.51 mm) and of course larger is better (as long as it clears brake / suspension).
245/45R20: Diameter Difference: 1.78%
255/45R20: Diameter Difference: 2.97%
I have stock suspension and i'm not planning dropping it.
Thanks!

A larger diameter will give you better gas mileage, etc., but will have slower acceleration from torque loss.
If you are looking for a 45 aspect ratio then 235/45-20 seems to be closest to stock at 720mm but it looks like you can get away with any of the tires you mentioned.
I'd be more worried about the offset and how it clears the fenders and suspension. I'm not sure how tall you can go but I think 275 is the widest you can go without rubbing the suspension if the wheel offset is +40.

not an SUV ...a Big Hatch
any 20 will clear brakes.. thats wheel size and would have nothing to do with tire size. Like IJ noted.. may be more to do with your offset, as far as suspension/fender clearance. As for the tire on the rim (8.5 in your case), you shouldn't have any issue with a 255. 255x40 =28.0
No real reason to stick with a 45 series, as it's just a % of the tread width.
...and stock OD will vary from factory 18 to factory 19

It seems 255/40/20 is really the best size (almost identical OD to the original 235/55/18), but there's not much choice in that size.
With the offset +35, do you think I would be okay with either 245/45/20 or 255/45/20?

You'll be okay with either size.
255/45-20 is more flush with the fenders but is 3.2% taller.
245/45-20 is not as flush with the fenders but more acceptable at 1.8% taller.
I read that you don't want to go past 2% diameter difference but that's your choice.
That's a good point about tire size choices. I'd go for the tire size with the best choices/prices.
