whining sound during idling and also when turning steering wheel
My 2007 RDX started having the whining sound during idling and also when I turn the steering wheel. Acura checked it and indicated that the power steering pump and reservioir unit needs replacement and also the drive belt. Quoted me $1200. Said no thanks and went to a local mechanic and got it done for $500.00.

I would have started with simply replacing the p/s fluid. Mine started doing this out of the blue at just over 100k miles. Changed fluid (easy DIY job), has been perfect ever since (126k now).

Yup considered that. But my local mechanic indicated that power steering pump unit was leaking fluid and the drive belt does need to be replaced, worn out.

Shitty...at least it was only leaking at the pump, and you got a good deal at a local guy. The CR-V from the same period tends to leak from the rack itself, which is well over a grand to replace.
