Strange sound coming from steering column

I've got a very strange sound coming from my steering column. I recorded it in a video here:
Any thoughts on what it might be?

I also have this problem, and haven't figured it out. This happens to me after starting the car then goes away after awhile.

I also have this sound, but it manifests differently. Once i turn the key to ON, without starting the car, I get that sound as if something is moving into position or energizing. It only lasts about 3-4 seconds but happens everytime. I have noticed it happen intermittently with a very low frequency during other occasions, sometimes while driving or just sitting idle, but that is relatively rare/hard to reproduce.

Mine also started that noise this morning-not as bad as this recording, seemed to go away after driving a bit.

sounds like the air mix motor assembly.

Motor on door for vent under driver seat could be bound up and that is the popping.

Try selecting all air to go to the floor, then to the dash or windshield. Feel with your hand to see if airflow changes.

I had the same thing on my 08 RDX and there was a TSB to re-grease the mix door for HVAC. It helped with the noise at start ups: https://www.motor.com/magazinepdfs/042012_13.pdf

Here is a link to the Thread for a fix: https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-rdx-...-noise-862172/

I Google searched under "acura rdx blend door actuator tsb" if the above link doesn't work.

Did you figure out if it was the HVAC mix door?

I am having the same problem. Started a year ago when I would have the noise intermittently. Now whenever the AC is on for >30 minutes I would get this noise continuously. I was wondering if there is a good/reasonably priced fix for it, if not I'm thinking of trading in the car for something else but really avoiding to!

Sure sounds like the air mix motor to me. My 2008 was making that noise and I put in a new motor (part # 79160-STK-A41 for the 2008, $41 shipped from Delray Acura) back in December. It's not too difficult to swap out - just a little tight under the steering column/dash area.

I tried greasing the motor as shown in the thread(s) mentioned earlier in this thread. That helped for a couple of months. When the noise came back I just popped in a new motor so I could be done with it.

I had the exact same noise and it turned out to be the mix door of the HVAC. I had the dealer fixed it (who just greased it) while I took it in for the airbag recall. They charged me ~$80 dollars (I was too lazy to do it myself) and the noise improved. (There is still a slight noise intermittently)
