RDX Turbo requires 'special' oil?

My mom has a 2011 RDX and her dealership told her that she needs to have the oil changed at the dealership because they have to use a 'special' oil because it's a turbo. Is there any merit to this? She's older, gullible and about 1500 miles away from me.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

It needs synthetic oil, that's all. The only thing 'special' is the extra cost.

I purchase my 5QT jug of 5w-30 Mobil 1 from Walmart for about $22 and take it to the dealership. Acura changes the oil, filter, and wash the RDX for about $35. I've seen Acura charge $70 for just an oil change.

My 2009 manual specifies it needs HT0-06--I use pennzoil premium and it is HT0-06 whereas Castrol syntec, Quaker State synthetic are not approved by Honda for application to the RDX. That special oil they use is Mobil One which is HTO-06.

Get the proper one as there are different mobil 1 5w30 synthetic. Only the correct one is HTO-06 rated.

Its advanced fully synthetic, and it has the word dexos in white and green letters on the front.

mulligan dog- the dealer not being entirely up front with your mother. As others mentioned, mobile1 5w-30 full synthetic or HTO-06 equivalent. Any shop can do it, as long as they use proper oil and filter (honda oil filter). That being said, probably best to just have the dealer service it- since most drivers don't concern themselves with details such as these. Though any mechanic should know what kind of oil to use, you'd hate to have the warranty voided if jiffy lube put conventional motor oil in there.

Aman, Canadian Tire sells Pennzoil Platinum for $29 for 5L size (on sale) and occasionally 4.4 l mobil one + 1 quart for $36. I just buy 3 or 4 at a time. This is in London, Ontario--maybe bigger cities like TO sell out faster I don't know.
