Rattling in headliner area

Has anyone had experience with rattling in the headliner area when going over rough pavement? I asked the dealer and they said the sunroof sliders need to be lubes, but that didn't make sense to me. A rattle means something is loose and banging against something else.....

I notice something similar - but not from the headliner. Mine comes from the back. I've checked to make sure windows were rolled up all the way, doors are shutting properly, nothing is loose or floating around on the floorboard or in the "trunk" area, and that the spare/etc. are all secured. I still hear a plastic-like rattling in the rear DS area. Maybe one day I'll have someone drive me around while I ride back there isolating it.

The infamous driver side rear seat upright latch? there is a TSB for this. I had the DW ride in the back on the passenger side, and then place hand against the seat back to stop the noise. Both sides were making noise, but driver side was much louder. I just wraped 3 inches of duct tape around the fixed U-shaped bar, into which the seat latch fastens.

Dude... I thought all the off-roading I do in the RDX had rattled something loose. I think this is it - and if this fixes it, I owe you a drink.

There's the TSB in case anyone wants it. I found the thread but the link there was no longer valid. Looks like a simple half hour job, at most. Now I can put those feeler gauges to use in something else aside from the old diesel's valves!

There are a couple of other threads on this problem, rattling rear seat backs. But I will just post this info here.

TSB 09-003 2007-2008 RDX, left rear seat creaks or rattles - so its a rather old problem.

The TSB involves both bending the heavy U-shaped fixture, and the latch on the seat back, which in my opinion will only wear and rattle again - which is why I just used duct tape. And I owe someone a favor, because it was not my idea. My 98 Chevy also has this problem, but so many other things also rattle, that 'fixing' this problem on the Chevy had no audible effect. :yum:

For those who wish to read the TSB, first open the following link, then open any link on that page.

Then you should be able to open any link on the following pages:

Sorry, but I do not remember just which 'page' above has the actual TSB for this problem, you will just have to search.

P.S. my dealer will usually print and give me the copy, if I have a specific TSB number - I just ask one of the tech writers.

When my 2008 RDX was brand new, I had a rattle in my headliner that came from just forward of the sunroof. If I pressed on it while driving, the rattle would go away. I had it fixed under warranty. Turned out that the headliner was basically separating from the roof. I guess it was a build quality issue. It's been perfect ever since.
