I have 2007 rdx with 40,000 miles on it now. While driving the Awd and engine light comes on. Code scanner says p2263. Bought the Acura book the shop guys use it tells u how to troubleshot it. Followed some steps but Everything seems to be working fine anyone else have this problem and what did u do to help it.

That's strange. Almost the exact same thing just happened to me.

I also have a 2007 RDX just under 39,000 miles. All of a sudden both the SH-AWD and Check Engine light came on, and I got the warning messages on the info display for:

All Wheel Drive: 77
Engine System: P2263

For the AWD it told me just to turn off the car and turn it back on, but for the engine message, it told me I should go to a dealer right away.

My car's never had any problem and it's completely stock, with no modification.

The only thing is that this is just the 2nd time I've driven since having the valve cover gasket replaced by the dealer.

Not sure if there's any connection to that. I had it changed because while in for regular service, dealer noticed a very slight leak from that gasket.

Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost System Performance according to another thread.
At least you can focus on everything related to the turbo. Look to see if it is making and dropping boost normal. It should spool instantly when you apply full throttle and cut boost for every shift and decel. Also check for leaks, bearing problem sounds.

Any warranty period left?

Not sure if your comment is for original poster or me, but in my case...

The car was driving perfect before the valve cover gasket got replaced. Since then, I only drove it 3 times before this happened, but in those 3 times, I did notice that when I merged on the highway, it didn't shift like normal.

It seemed to hold gear slightly longer than usual before shifting up, and when it finally shifted up, felt not quite as smooth as usual. A very small difference, but noticeable to me. Wasn't sure if it was just the very hot weather outside.

Otherwise, the car seemed to drive perfectly fine, but I didn't get much chance to drive it either.

The only warranty I have remaining is the 6yr/70,000mi powertrain warranty (owned 5 years 3 months now). Also, I'm sure this must be related to the work they did replacing the valve cover gasket (which was covered by the powertrain warranty), so I would think they would fix it as part of that.

Maybe they didn't put it all back together right. This car has never given me a single problem and it drives just like the day I bought it new.

It's at the dealer now getting looked at. No word yet on diagnosis, but hopefully it's a simple fix.

Let me know what they changed. Ur valve cover has nothing to do with ur turbo however you have to take the charge air cooler off to get to the cover itself. Maybe they did something there wrong let me know how u made out thanks.

Got the car back from the dealer. They said it was a momentary blip and there's nothing really wrong.

I didn't really understand what the service adviser was trying to tell me the tech said. I'm not sure she really understood well enough to explain it clearly, and I was in a hurry to get out of there.

All I could understand is they say there's nothing wrong with the car itself. That the code was triggered by a faulty/inaccurate signal from a fuel level sensor. So they reset it (not sure if she meant the sensor or the codes) and took it for extended drive and didn't reappear.

That's a relief. Hope it doesn't come back. It was just funny timing that it would happen shortly after the first and only time I've had any work done under the hood, other than regular servicing, with the valve cover work.

I still think it's related, but no harm done other than a little extra worrying and time wasting with another visit to dealer. At least I didn't get charged anything, so better safe than sorry.

I'm the one that had the issue in the linked thread above. Didn't get it looked at the first time this occurred... however it has cropped up again this past weekend on a similar trip. Again the lights turned on after about 2 hours of highway driving followed be a quick rest stop. 20 minutes down the road and I have a Christmas tree on my dash. Just dropped it off at the dealer... but the lights are gone after a few key cycles. Not looking too promising for a diagnosis right now.

Funny that you mention the valve cover replacement... I've had that work done as well. Only have had this problem since then. I'll be sure to mention that when they call me.

So, I have a possible resolution. It'll only be resolved in my mind if it never comes back (since my steps to reproduce aren't likely to make the problem show up in tech's road test).

They say that a bunch of hoses and clamps weren't tightened enough which would cause a boost leak of some sort. This is surely due to the valve cover work they had performed a few months ago. They admit that the whole airbox/intercooler assembly comes off during that work, however don't admit fault and have stuck me with the diagnosis bill of about $100.

Sorry to hear they want to charge you diagnostic fee.

I was afraid they were going to do that to me, but fortunately, they never brought it up and I was pleased when I saw the $0 on the service paper. I've been lucky to have a good dealer. They always have treated me well so far.

The only downside was the time wasted making the trip to the dealer and they were short mechanics so they had to put me in a loaner.

However, had they tried to charge me, I would've tried to argue that it was a result of the valve cover work, just as you are making this same point above. Or, if you are still within your powertrain warranty, you could try going that route. But really, it seems like it would be related to the prior service. If not, what's their explanation for how it became un-tightened? They basically admitted to you it's their fault, so you shouldn't have to pay a fee, in my opinion.

You've probably already settled this with them, but hopefully it worked out okay for you.

In the meantime, I hope it doesn't come back for either of us. It's been a few weeks now since I went in and the car is driving perfectly fine and not a hint of problem so I think they resolved it for me.

I've now been told that any or all of the two wastegate control solenoids and the single air bypass control solenoid are the culprits. I've also been told that these are not powertrain/major components and will not be warrantied. I've been quoted $500 for parts and labor if I elect to get the work done. (parts can be found cheaper online - I've already checked)

I don't think that is right. Check your warranty. It seems to be part of the powers rain, as it can't run without it.

If its a component of the engine or transmission, its the drivetrain. Its not your fault that modern engines are controlled by computers, actuators, and solenoids .

They are trying to pull a fast one.

I agree they want to make money off of you. I bought the 3 solenoids I'm going to replace all three the dealer ship told me it was the turbo. They told me the turbo is slipping never heard of such a thing. I can drive 3,000 miles no problem but if I drive hard and fast the light will come on. If it was a bad turbo it would be all the time not every other trip I do. The parts only cane out to $100 see if this works.

Funny, I've never heard that.
Could you produce a link to a thread and back that BS up?

Okay gang, here is my story. Car is a 2007 RDX tech, one of the first ones made with 145K miles. Emissions and SH-AWD lights came on the end of June. Dealer checked and replaced air filter. Lights had gone out after about 6 restarts. One week later, lights came back on. Return to dealer. Airbox not fully sealed. Replace a screw. No lights for over 2 months. Last week lights come back on, return to dealer. Dealer goes thru everything, no leaks, I need to replace the turbo at $4500. HOWEVER, they also tell me it spools up okay, builds pressure properly. What gives? And, if the turbo IS bad, why did it take over 2 months to register the codes again? Appreciate any input. Thanks.

Blend valve/door?

$4,500??? Wow.

$725 used eBay. $700 Any qualified auto repair shop, not a dealer. Then trade it off on a new model.

Not sure what you mean by "blend valve/door". Anyway, the car runs fine, so I'm not replacing the turbo until it really goes bad.(makes noise). Not crazy about 2nd gen RDX, but don't know what else fills my needs. Wish TSX wagon had the V6 option.

Still waiting for an answer/facts on this statement. Seems to me we'd be have an entire thread dedicated to just this issue if your statements are correct.

This kind of blanket BullShit statement with no basis is how manufacture's turbo programs get cancelled.

I have a 2008 w/ 130,000 miles. Same 2263 code and the SHAWD is getting shut off as well. The car drives fine and I can't find any leaks, air filter is clean, have tightened clamps and cleaned the MAF sensor. I did have the spark plugs changed by an independent acura mechanic and then right after the codes started. Of course there could be a leak but seems like a very possible coincidence. Has anyone tried changing the solenoids, understand how to figure it out or found a fix? The dealer wants to hang a new turbo on it and the independents don't have any idea what to check or how to check to fix it. I have looked all over the internet and keep finding folks in the same boat but no one had posted about actually fixing it. I am very experienced fixing cars but this is my 1st rodeo with a turbo.

I replaced one of the solenoids myself and the problem has gone away for the moment. Its the one near the intake manifold, I purchased the other two solenoids but I cant figure out where they are located.

Thanks for the reply Vividsi. Do you know if it was the Air Bypass Valve Solenoid that you replaced? The other (2) solenoids to possibly replace are the waste gate solenoids. From what I can tell/read the Air Bypass Valve Solenoid is the one to start with and see if it fixes it. Of course I could just replace all (3) but I would rather not have to.

the air bybass one sounds correct which should only require 1 solenoid, the other area requires 2 of the same solenoid which I havent used.

Ordered the bypass and 2 wastegate solenoids. The wastegate solenoids go on the back of the engine by the turbo. Will report back once I replace on whether they address the issue. Thanks to Tim at OEMacuraparts for a great site for parts!

I have a 2007 RDX and same issue (engine and SH-AWD lights coming off and on). Brought it to the dealership and after a week of tests they are telling me the turbo needs to be replaced ($7,000 parts and labor).

Many others seem to have this issue - how have you fixed it?

I need a list from you of AZ members who have this issue or, at the least, links to the places where "Many others" have posted complaints about the RDX turbo. Otherwise it appears to me that less than 1% of RDX owners have a problem with their turbo.

There are 4 people on this thread that all had the exact same issue plus a few others on similar threads on AZ. I am interested in how the others fixed this issue.

So your total is 4, and they are only on this thread? Four doesn't count as "many."

There were over 30,000 RDX's sold in 2006-07. By my math, that would put the four of you at .0123% of sales represented here on AZ.

Let's consider that you probably only make up 1% of those who have actually had an issue and looked here and posted for help...
That would make the probable total of RDX owners who have this issue right now at 1.23%. FAR from "many."

Marco - here are all the comments on the site that appear to link to the same issue (SH-AWD and engine lights coming off and on) - diagnosis seems different for some but tends to link to turbo issues or differential but often dealership does not know what it is). I am not a mechanic - just a RDX owner so these issues may not all be the same but just trying to get some guidance as the dealership is saying they never saw this issue before and need to replace Turbo

Thanks. mikerdx

SH-AWD error
yesterday I accelerated onto the freeway and my SH-AWD light came on and a message on the nav screen said to avoid slippery roads and hard turns I believe, I'm only 4K away from my next differential oil change and transer case so I hope its not mechanical, So when I got back in the car to leave my destination all the warnings were off which I find strange. Has anybody experienced this?

son of a gun the car was running so good and really strong it was throwing me back in my chair but now during lunch it did the same thing again SHAWD error. Vividsi

I have had that happen 2 times in my 2007 RDX, I brought it to 2 different dealers,(paragon acura & Kings acura) and both said it was not an issue as long as the light does not stay on. When my light came on after parking it and letting it sit, the car will attempt to reset itself, If it is a problem the SHAWD light will stay on. Let your service provider know just so there is a paper trail. You never know
Ironically this happend to me today, A day after I posted my comment. Now I am in the same situation as Vividsi, My SHAWD will not go off, and to go with that sensor, An emmissions error popped up and a transmition error. SMH. Some one pls HELP!!!. MikeDeca

SH-AWD Problem(a little long)
There ware two things that I'd hoped would never cause a problem. The turbo and the SH-AWD. I am 0-1. While I was travelling to NC the check SH-AWD light came on. I could tell that there was something different about the way it drove. It would just labor up hills. So I had my wife break out the manual and it says that if that warning light displays then the car will automatically switch to front wheel drive. We pull over, shut it off, restart and the light goes away. I was like, maybe it was just random but about two miles down the road it happened again. So the next thing that I think is something is overheating but there is another warning display for that. So I wash, rinse and repeat but this time I let it sit a little longer. After we got back on the road a second time after about 50 miles "bong". Here we go again. Now I am pissed. I barely have 8000 miles on the odo and haven't been off-roading or anything crazy. It was just me, my wife, the dog and two suitcases, so we were not carrying too much weight. Well it was 10pm on friday and we were too far from home to turn around. I decided to keep driving and take it in during the week.

Forward to the following Monday I take it to the dealership and sit for and hour. The service rep calls me over and says they checked the computer and saw the warning code. Then he says that it will take them another 2 hours to actually diagnose the problem. He pulls me aside and whispers that it could be anything from a fuse to a bad rear diff and I am not the first one with this problem. They had to print out a diagnostic manual to even begin the work. So I set up an appointment for this Wednesday and they have had it since.

I am not all that worried but you never know. They are not able to look at my car until Saturday but I have a TSX in the meanwhile. One thing I did notce that the gas milage was better in front wheel drive. Only by a couple mpgs though. Driving the TSX again makes me wish that the RDX had a stiff chasis and handled more like it.

I should have my ride back sometime next. I'll keep you all posted.

My SH-AWD light went off several times earlier this winter. It would "reset" when we turned the car off most of the time. I did not notice it driving differently, but I did take it into the dealer. They downloaded the error codes and although they also did not find anything wrong, they were able to see exactly when it went on. For me it only went on only during cold starts when the temp was single digits fahrenheit. They then cleared out all the codes and it hasn't occurred since.

Your dealer should've been able to pinpoint exactly what conditions your RDX was encountering when the light went on. Also, there is no way they wouldn't have been able to find a code (as far as I know). Everytime the SH-AWD light turns on it is stored. mlb11

VSA, SH-AWD and Engine Check Light
Hi all, I have an '07 RDX with 45600 miles.

While driving down the Interstate today, the Engine Check Light and both the VSA and SH-AWD warning lights came on and stayed on. The car was otherwise OK with no noticeable change in performance or handling. I stopped the car and shut down the engine. I re-started the car, everything was OK except the Engine Check Light came and stayed on (the VSA and SH-AWD lights stayed off).

I called my servicing center to schedule a check tomorrow, but I was wondering if the other owners here experienced anything similar and what was the cause of that experience.

,... the same thing just happened to mine! Pulled out to overtake, on a wet road, as the boost came on it I felt what I thought was the wheels looseing traction. So I say to myself, cool nice power, and then blam at aproximately 40mph the engine looses all power and at the same time the dash lights up with "engine check light" " check vsa system" and " check sh-awd system"!!
So I drive the rest of the way home, and before reaching I do some drivability type checks. At light throttle car accelerates ok smoothly, but once you floor it the engine would cut out so to speak.
Parked, shut off the engine, and then restarted and only the 'engine check light' remains on!
Gotta get the code pulled now..........!! wspy Jamica WI

Same thing happened to me last night driving home. Took my car to auto zone and got a code that has to do with vtec oil pressure switch failed. Does anyone have a diagram of where the vtec solenoid is? kingkong222

SH-AWD warning light
2007 RDX Tech, 37800 miles. SH-AWD warning light came on after about 1 hour of driving on the highway. Speeds in the 70's, dry pavement and temps in the high 80's. Lost rear wheel drive as a result. After restarting the car as recommended, the warning light was gone. 1 hour later it came on, same driving conditions. Dealer replaced the fluid, updated the software and all was fine for 10 days. The light returned after about 10 minutes of driving, temps in the 80's, speeds in the 40's. Restarted, light off and back on after 10 minutes. Repeat later in the day. Appointment tomorrow but any ideas are appreciated. Sulaco
