LATCH Infant Seat - Middle Seat

Hello. I have a 2009 RDX. I am having a child and bought a Chicco Keyfit 30. I read the manual and it says if you put a carseat in the back, it recommends that the seat be put behind the passenger seat. That is contrary to most experts who tell you to put in the middle seat.

Also, the manual says that use of a seat in the middle will make the seatbelt behind the driver inaccessible. Is this true? If so, this makes the RDX basically a 3 seater.

Any advice? There are a few threads out there but they are are a bit older.

Thanks,
Dan

I should clarify that the manual references in the above post are from the Acura manual.

That is correct. If you put a LATCH childseat in the middle spot, you cannot access the bucket for the seat behind the driver's seat. It's because the middle LATCHes are slightly offset toward the driver side. I don't know why they did this.

I also believe that the center spot is the safest for a childseat, for obvious reasons.

I have my son's seat in the middle and everyone can buckle up in the back with him in it.

Interesting. The manual clearly states that the driver's side rear seat will have its seat belt buckle obscured. Maybe you have a narrower than usual infant seat?

Sorry for the delay.

Actual yes I have a Britax seat and I did notice it is on the narrow side. A lot of the cheaper seats seem to be wider, say like a Eddie Bauer.

Hi,

Never had problems not accessing the seat belts with the child seats mounted. It can be tight for the passenger but all seat belts were accessible.

I have had a child seat mounted in the middle and both belts were accessible. I was using a Britax Marathon and a Sunshine Kids Radian. In fact, I have had 3 car seats in the back of a 2008 RDX a few times. Once with a Britax Frontier and two Sunshine Kid Radians and the other with three Radians.

From what I have seen so far, the Radians are the narrowest seats I have tried so far and they fold too.
