Is Delphi the Acura Manufacturer Ignition Coil Supplier?
Hi, Iast month I had a $1200 ignition coil replacement for my 2010 Acura RDX where the ignition coils in my car were replaced with Delphi Ignition coils (part number GN10370 for $177 per coil x 4). When I asked about the repair charges online, some folks mentioned Denso brand coils should be used for Acura / Honda and that Delphi coils were aftermarket. This made me curious about the two because after speaking with owner of the shop who did my repairs about my bill he insisted that the reason the Delphi coils were so expensive was because he bought them from the Acura dealership. He also insisted that Delphi coils were Acura dealership/factory ignition coils and that if I were to order parts from Acura then they would say Delphi and not Denso. Is it true that Delphi ignition coils are the OEM coils of Acura?

damn you got hosed… delphi are less than $40 a pop here. You could have gotten all 4 for the price of one and DIYd it to save almost 90%.

The insult to injury is that I likely didnt need all four coils replaced because I was still able to drive my car to the repair shop (although there was some misfiring). I also found out from my Dad that he already had the coils and spark plugs replaced around a year or so ago before the debacle and the car hadn't accumulated anywhere near 100,000 miles in that time so the other coils likely would've ran ok too.

Expensive lesson learned for sure. I did have one coil that failed on me a few years back - it was a hard stop in that cylinder and I decided to have it towed to the shop (engine shaking, nasty smell in the exhaust - didn't want to damage the cat by dumping unburned fuel). But the repair was about $300 for parts and labor. $1200 is absolutely insane for all 4, considering that the labor for 4 coils should be the same as the labor for 1 (almost all of the work is removing and replacing the intercooler - after that each coil is one quick bolt and wire clip). Highly unlikely you needed them all replaced, but you'll learn more over time as you have the car, and get a better idea of what you can do yourself, what needs a shop, and how much it should cost.
