"creaking" sound when turning steering wheel at slow speed

Anyone has this issue of the steering wheel making a "creaking" sound when turning the car at a corner, where the steering wheel is turned through at least over 90 degrees? This is only heard at very slow speeds, when I am turning around a corner. And no, the blinkers are not on.
When the steering wheel spins back to it's original center position following a 90 degree turn, it makes that sound again. It is not terribly loud, but definitely audible enough.

I am very sure this is not normal, as my other car, the TSX, does not make this sound when turning through a corner.

Taking it to a dealer this Wednesday to check it out.

Mine creaks pretty loudly when it is cold...but I attribute it to just that. With the warmer weather, it seems to have gone away. I saw someone else mention creaking here and they apparently got it fixed (dealer needed to order and replace a part).

Frankly, I don't want my dealer taking apart my steering wheel. Too many buttons and opportunities to introduce new problems. I figure I still have several miles until my warranty runs out...

Thanks for the info. Good to know, it is not just my RDX.

Well, will see what the dealer says about this issue on Wednesday.

Yeah...let me know what you find out. I would probably have it fixed if there was danger of my steering wheel locking up, coming off or if the airbag would malfunction....

Thanks -

-30F!!??!! where do you live? the Anarctica?
I think you mean -30C, right???

Vancouver is @ 55F and the creaks happens... so I don't think it is the cold weather...
Anyway, my RDX is in the dealer service dept. now... will see what they say...

What was the dealer's diagnosis?

I had that steering wheel creaking sound looked at by the dealer about 3 weeks ago... They replaced the rail cable assembly that holds all the electrical cables running through the steering column...

The first couple of days, the sound seems to be gone... but then it came back again...

I had booked for it to be looked at again by the dealer... but I sort of waited for a while, and now the sound is not there... wonder if it has anything to do with the warm weather we are getting here now...

The weather has warmed up considerably over the past couple of days, and the creaky steering wheel sound is no longer there. I wonder if it only happens when it is cold...

Hate to revive a 6+ year old thread but a search didn't turn up what the cause/fix was for the creaking steering wheel.

I'm getting the same creaking here when the weather drops below -15 deg C. Worth taking to the dealer or normal due to the cold?

Try CV joints, power steering fluid or power steering hydraulic pump. Sometimes it'll have to do with the struts; most problems don't require taking the steering wheel off like someone mentioned, unless it is the reel* (correction to above) assembly, but that's a rare problem. Even then, taking off the steering wheel isn't too hard since they all have harnesses, just make sure the battery is disconnected.
