Hi everyone, I couldn't find any threads on this issue so wanted to see if anyone has run into this issue.

Just some background info. Last week after turning on the RDX (2011 AWD) "Check Tranmission" popped up on the HID along with "D" flashing and "Engine Light ON". I didn't feel any issues with the car and was only driving on local roads. After I started the car up again, everything disappeared until today.

Fast forward to today, I get the same errors. This time I'm on the highway and notice fifth gear is not engaging and the vehicle only has 4 gears. I was driving at 120km/hr and noticed the RPM was over 3k and that's when I noticed it. In Sport Mode it won't engage past forth gear and in Automatic Mode I can upshift to fifth gear but it's still in forth, by looking at the RPM.

Last year around this time, the Engine Light came on and D flashing, but then disappeared. I brought it to my mechanic but he said there were no issues.

Any one else encounter this? Just wanted some input before I bring it to my mechanic's on Monday since he's closed tomorrow.

happened on my MDX but without the check engine light. Turned out to be a faulty 5th gear pressure sensor.

You could use an OBD scan tool to see if it set a code or has a pending code. Use that info to help find the root cause. You can borrow a scan tool at Autozone.

Turns out that's what it was, so he replaced the sensor.

What's odd though, is that morning I was driving it to my mechanic, the fifth gear was working fine but the engine light was still on. He said the cold could be effecting the sensor, which ironically also came on around the same time last year and disappeared.

Generally when a fault trips an engine light, the light will say on for a time (usually a few drive cycles), even if the fault is no longer detected.
