Certified Vehicle - Not at Certified Minimum Standards

Hello,

I purchased a certified 2008 RDX last week, and have found two items to not meet the certification standards so far. I took it back to the dealer and they are fixing it, at small cost to me. The two problems i found were:
1) Two tires were under the 5/32 standard for certification and were at 4/32 (they are charging me labor to replace).
2) The power steering rack is leaking - they have to replace the rack to fix.

I was wondering if anyone else had this issue with Acura dealers? Also, I noticed the other functions of the car were average or below average (brakes weak, break pedal squeaks when pressed, etc) and am now worried that other aspects of the car did not truly meet the certification standards, as it was shown on the certification inspection sheet they provided me (like the above 2 fixes). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

First off, congrats on the car!

Second, if you haven't paid yet, don't. You paid extra for a certified car, and it's the dealer's responsibility to provide you with a certified car. They didn't, and it's their responsibility to fix it.

They don't exactly have any leveraging here, or any right to charge you a cent. Sounds like a VERY shady dealer. I'd contact Acura Corporate, see what they can do. Try to get it to another Acura dealer and have the car inspected there, to be sure that the rest of the car meets standards.

Good luck.

Tire change should be free. Never ever heard of an Acura steering rack leak (Lexus, YES - Acura NO) That doesn't mean yours isn't... just the first I had ever heard of it.
That replacement should also be free.

Mine was also a CPO. Two things were replace/fixed. Rear seat latch that was making squeaky/rattling noise and driver-side headlight condensation and both was replaced under warranty. But it’s close to a year now and I have not yet encountering anything else. Although the “brake system” light comes on cold mornings but it quickly goes away after the engine warms up.

So as an Update..

Called the Acura Client Services, they were not much help at all. Just said that at the discretion of the dealer, they can ask them to do another 150 point inspection and that's it. Said the dealer is their eyes and ears and nothing else ACS can do and solely up to the dealer if they want to help anymore.

I bought a 09 CPO and here's my list so far:

1. Winshield was replaced and I was not notified. Found this out when the rear-view mirror fell off.
2. Driver's side front fender has a slight kink in it. Never mentioned.
3. TPMS system shuts off at random. They are still trying to get this worked out. It's the 8th time it's been in the shop in 13 months.

I also purchased mine CPO from an Acura dealership. The morning after purchasing it the battery was dead. Dealer drove out a "technician" who replaced it.

That day the wife and I took it for a drive and I noticed it was leaking (on my drive way). Looked under the hood and, surprise, there was no transmission dip stick. Called Metro Acura and they came out and towed it back and then drove it here (with a full tank of gas at my request).

Lesson learned.....Go over every, every vehicle you purchase thoroughly whether from a private party or dealership.

I have an 09 RDX that's CPO. Look up my problems with my TPMS.

The CPO program holds little weight in my eyes. I'm glad I paid $1/month over the regular financing for a bumper to bumper warranty.
