2008 RDX Clicking noise on front passenger side axle

Has anyone encounter a problem with their front passenger side axle? My 08' RDX has about 125,000 miles and is making some sort of clicking noise coming from the passenger side axle area. I do not beleive the struts is doing that. Possibly axle bearing could be bad but not for sure what the diagnos is. Any ideas or suggestion? Thanks!

Do you only hear the sound when you turn left/right only or do you hear the sound all the time?

Yes, your axle is shot. I went through multiple front axles in my 2008 Civic... it happens. Look for breaks in the rubber boots behind your wheel hub and at where the shaft meets the transmission. You might also notice grease splattered around each general area if the boots are indeed torn.

I am sorry to hear this. Looks like the part is around $90, and if you have access to nice jack or lift, and some tools, the replacement is not the hardest thing todo.

if you are in central Florida I can help with the above items. Best of luck!

It's making the clicking noise pretty much at all times, especially when i hit a bump.. even the slightest bump.

Well, typically your worn axle wont make the a ton of noise while driving straight directly over bumps... to me that symptom sounds like a worn strut or control arm joint... None-the-less it can happen. The symptoms of a worn CV axel typically occur while driving and simultaneously turning.

Make a few tight U-turns Left & Right, see if you can get the clicking to happen in a rhythm with the forward motion of your vehicle.

Hard to diagnose issues such as this over the interwebs, there are many parts to your suspension. However, a broken sway-bar link may be the problem. These are cheap and easy to fix. If you don't feel comfortable checking and/or fixing this, seek professional automotive help.

I guess I should say that its not actually making a clicking noise but more or less like a clacking or thumping. Turning or making a u-turn doesnt cause the noise to happen but as the car is in motion and going over bumps or even the slightest crack on the roads triggers the noise. A friend of mine was moving a joint on the axle and it feels like something is loose or broken. He did the same thing to his daughters 2001 TL and it was nice and tight. We're thinking a particular part that to the axle could be bad but dont know what it is called.

From this description, I'm wondering if he correctly identified the axle. He may have had the torsion (anti-roll) bar or tie-rod.

You should have this looked at by a knowledgeable person soon, as there is the potential for loss of control.

Sounds simple, but check the strut tower bolts. They are located under the hood @ the top left and right corners towards your wind screen, under plastic covers.

When I replaced my struts this week, those bolts were barely hand tight.

Vapera, I have come to a conclusion to replace the bearing half shaft and hope that fix the problem. Start with the least expensive and hopefully not have to spend anymore money.

With that being said. Has anyone had to replace their bearing half shaft before? If so how? Is the bearing pressed in, hard to remove?

I have that sound in my 2007 RDX, the slightest crack in the ground makes a clunking nose. More noticeable the slower i drive.

I was going to say, I am having a popping noise coming from the front when I hit some bumps in the road. We looked at the front sway bar last night and it seemed the drivers side endlink was not in line and needs replaced. Parts didn't seem too expensive when I was researching.

Honda posts their part numbers on-line.

The RDX front suspension components are listed under "knuckle". For example, an 2009 stabilizer bar (9) is 51300-STK-A01 and stabilizer link (12) is 51320-STK-A01.

There are a number of OEM Honda parts dealers on-line. The RDX parts page posted above is from:

^Figures that you would not give any information that might actually provide a source for people to gain the knowledge they need without your help. Because if you did list a link to HMCo parts, your services would no longer be needed. And you need so desperately to feel important that you have people PM you with their information so that you can reveal their solution to them privately. Sad.

I can find that link here.

Unlike some manufacturers (VW and GM for instance) Honda does not disguise or hide their part numbers. There is no "secret" list, such as VW's ETKA.

Anyone can access RDX part numbers at the Acura E-store, Del Ray Acura, Bernardi Acura, etc.

We can all go to any of these sites, enter their model; and see parts diagrams, part numbers and prices. Sometimes parts are listed strangely, such as the front stabilizer -- listed under "knuckle" -- that I posted for assistance above.

If anyone is having difficulty finding a part, look in every likely category, or call them -- the on-line stores "get it" and are very helpful.

Additionally, if you can get under and see the part on the car -- such as the front stabilizer -- you should be able to find a white sticker with the part number.

I think you guys just solved my issue also. It was perfectly fine the other day, but started making weird noises popping sounds when going over small cracks in the road. I hope mine is also as simple as a sway bar.
