2007 RDX Turbo

I have an issue with the ignition on my 2007 RDX. It will allow me to advance the key to the second accessory position and everything lights up as normal but it won't engage the starter. There's no sound from the ignition. Prior to the complete failure to function, over the last year, this condition was occurring intermitently. Sometimes it would failed to start and then I'd wait a few minutes and then it would fire up. I'm stuck with no transpo and would appreciate any guidance. I order the OEM immobilizer (39730-STK-A01) from Acura to troubleshoot before I go ahead and purchase the entire ignition assembly (06350-STK-305) which is $500. I paid $5K for this car and I've already spent $1500 bringing it back to life. I like the car and don't want to give up on it just yet. Thanks for any feedback!

I've seen many ignition cylinder key sets wear out and act like that. The weight of all those keys and cutesy fobs are hard on them.

thanks for the feedback but man now I'm really confused. Before I posted this, I ordered 39730-stk-a01 which is the cylinder itself from a different Acura parts supplier that has it in stock apparently although I haven't received it yet. When I entered this same part number into the site you listed, it says it's "no longer available"

https://www.acurapartswarehouse.com/...205AT&filter=()

Regardless, your suggestion is to replace the entire key fob which is what is preventing my key from starting the engine (even though it still turns the car "on" to the second access position). Is that correct? I didn't know the issue could be the key. How can the immobilizer be bad if the key turns? Also, is it easy to reprogram a new key?

thanks again big time

I was referring to the switch itself, not the key. ie: my dad had 25 keys, and a Swiss Army knife on his key ring. That weight hanging from the ignition switch, swinging around while driving, wore out the internals of the switch. When the switch started acting up, he'd have to jiggle it when trying to start his truck. Sometimes he'd have to try several times to get it to work.

Maybe you didn't get the part because they didn't realize it was discontinued yet. I always try the cheaper option first which is the key immobilizer and transmitter if you think it's good I trust you. Then try the next least expensive option the key cylinder set and I agree heavy key rings can damage this part. My car keys are always solo for this reason. I assume you checked related fuses if not ask me I will find the fuse box and fuses you should check.

Thank you very much. I never even saw this as an option as a stand alone replacement part. I got it on Amazon and arriving tomorrow for less than $30. I'll owe you a solid if this works out.

Thank you Pandaman. That did the trick. Anyone experiencing ignition failure issues, this universal part number fits Hondas and Acuras. 35130-SAA-J51 "steering switch ignition starter". Best $20 I ever spent.

Acura RDX 2007 Ignition Failure

Well, I spoke too soon. To answer your question, yes it was an easy swap. Requires removing 2 philips head screws that you may need a 90 degree screwdriver to remove one of the two because they're in a tight spot. You have to first remove the plastic shroud and then it's easy to get to. I spoke too soon because the part I ordered first 35130-SAA-J51 (generic version for $20) worked for 2 days and then I was back to the same problem. I ordered the Honda OEM and installed it and still nothing. Same issue which is odd considering the generic one worked for a couple days. I don't know what next I can replace to troubleshoot this before buying the entire ignition mechanism ($490). I'm attaching the right and left side of the ignition assembly along with the part I replaced that didn't fix the issue. Anyone know if there's another (less expensive) component that I can replace before I purchase the entire ignition assembly? Thank you!

Replacement part worked for 2 days

Replaced with OEM but did not fix the issue.
