Post pics of your exhaust setups!

The RDX exhaust is most intriguing. I thought I'd share my setup and experiences.

I started out doing a resonator delete. Bad move. It caused engine drone during acceleration which wasn't worth the gain, if any.

Then, I did an axle-back setup with a Magnaflow 12267. I liked it but I wanted more.

I then installed a steel downpipe and was happy with the big increase in power and less turbo lag. A 2.5" mid-pipe kicked it up a notch. The car was on the loud side, which I'm not a fan of since it makes my music harder to hear and isn't as classy.

I went for a 3" SS turboback setup with as many resonators as I could fit to make her a sleeper. I used SS v-band clamps for the convenience of a gasket-less, leak-free, one-bolt clamp. Not too loud, but there is still slight drone in the cabin, but that's just the price of power. Very happy with the setup.

Custom SS downpipe
2x 3" V Band Clamp & Flange Turbo Downpipe Stainess CNC
4x Vibrant 1142 3" Ultra Quiet Resonator
Vibrant 46688 TurboFlex Coupling with Interlock Liner
Magnaflow 12267 Satin Stainless Steel Oval Muffler
2x 4" Dual-Walled Stainless Steel Tips

My flex pipe busted and caused an exhaust leak and it's about that time to smog my car so I put the stock system back on. I'm going to install a longer flex pipe and remove one of the resonators so the exhaust shop will have room to install some proper exhaust hangers to hold the weight of exhaust system.

If there's anything y'all can take away from my experiences is that, the downipipe is a great place to start. You'll get the most bang for your buck. Be sure to have some sort of flex pipe to prevent damage.

If you're not planning to go all out, then just get an axle-back. It's easy for your local exhaust shop to custom build and easy to swap if you ever want to go back to stock.

For those who worry about it being too loud, the downpipe itself will cause an increase in exhaust noise. Mated with a stock cat-back it won't be too loud, but it will be noticeable. The least noticeable exhaust mod would be to do an axle-back. Barely any cabin drone with that. Throw in a mid-pipe and it should still be a sleeper. A resonator delete is not recommended.

Looking forward to seeing your setups.

HOLY RESONATORS BATMAN!!!!

I do like the write up though. Although i personally like some beef in the exhaust note and can enjoy engine noise just as much as my music. Sleeper status is not what I'm pursuing but thanks for the advice

wowzers on the resonators. i would think 2 would be plenty.. should of done a cat on the midpipe and a decent size resonator i am sure that would of been decent enough plus save alittle weight

RESONATORS! That's a crazy setup! You got any sound videos of this idling, revving, and drive-bys?

What companies actually produce an axle-back for the RDX? It's solely for the purpose of noise, but just curious to see what's out there.

How much did that all cost?

bluecarbonfiber 12-06-2013 01:24 PM

DimMer what resonator do you have in the exhaust system?

rdxblue 12-13-2013 10:08 AM

would like to know the same Dimmer.. also is the rear carbon defuser an overlay? or is it a full 100% carbon part

It is a real custom made carbon diffuser.

as far as I know ATLP is the only cat back setup. and it is sold by healtoe. < they are great people by the way.

For an axle-back, just get a and take it to your local muffler shop to install it behind the axle as a bolt-on.

They'll bolt up a matching flange where the old one was bolted near the axle, then weld up the piping, hangers and tips. They'll probably charge about $150 for labor and materials (not including tips). That's what I did at first and it all costed about $300.

FYI: I was able to transfer my exhaust system from an '07 to '11 with perfect fitment. My 4" exhaust tips fit just fine. I took off two of the resonators to make more room for proper hangers. Sounds great, similar to DimMer's.

I have a 2007 RDX... I'm thinking about removing the mid-muffler only... How would this sound? I looked up a few videos of what a TSX sounds like, and it sounded pretty good...

I figured a TSX is a good example as it shares the most similarly to the RDX...

I read above someone removed the resonator, I will NOT be doing that...

I want just a little sound inexpensively....

I will ill also soon be running Hondata and an intake, and don't want to lean out the A/F ratio too much!!!

This seems like my best bet!!!!

Any imput put will be appreciated!!!
