3M Headlight Restoration Kit

Just wanted to say, this kit is amazing. 16 bucks on Amazon and about 30 minutes work per headlight gets some serious results. I could have done better, and I may actually make another pass at it as now that I've done it once I feel I can improve on the work a bit, but I'm very satisfied.

Mine are starting to look that way. Well one of mine since one was replaced two years ago. What exactly is this product doing here? Stripping a minute layer of plastic off, or is oxidation a buildup of something that we can't get off with normal washing. Is it similar to using a polish and you are actually getting rid of imperfections in clearcoat on your paint by actually removing some of it? Any negatives to doing this?

You sand right through the clear coat with drill attachments, then polish up with finer and finer materials. I used this kit on my S2000. It was 6 years ago, and still looks great. The main thing is to use a sealant product that has UV protection after you do this. I use Meguiar's M21 synthetic mirror glaze sealant on my headlights, which has UV protection. There are probably more expensive and better products available, but my RDX lights are still clear!

Yeah, the kit came with a polish to shine it up but I question the long term benefit of it in our Phoenix sunshine. I'll be getting something more robust here soon.

I just used the Mother's kit, and am pleased with the results.

I looked for the 3M kit, but couldn't find it. AutoZone had a rebate on the Mother's kit, so about the same price (results look pretty comparable). The Mother's kit has plenty of product for 4 lights.

I was sure to douse the lights with 303 Aerospace afterwards.
