Upgraded Headlights

Hello,

I have looked around alot at the forums regarding upgrading to HID`s for the DRL and Fog lights.Would love to hear what everyone is running.. If anyone has upgraded these I would love to see what set up (brand, what K,) you guys have went with or some pictures.

I`m leaning towards leaving the lowbeam as is right now, and upgrading the DRL and Fog lights to 5000k HID and would love to hear what everyone thinks about that set up, or any concerns with that particular set up.

cant run DRL as hid due to lower voltage draw.. you can pull the fuse on DRLs and do a nice switchback for the parking lights and have HID as highbeams.. i purchased HIDs for fogs going to try and see if i can figure out how to run fogs when the highbeam and parking lights are on

Hey thanks for the info, perhaps i will just change the bulbs for the drl, to perhaps hoen xenonmatch H11? the yellow color of the DRL just bothers me, i love the look of the lowbeams however

i run hoens as my highbeams/drls i like them alot i ended up pulling the fuse on the DRLs though i will just run V-led Tritons switchbacks as my parking/turnsignal light
DRLs are a life sucker for the battery and the bulbs in general IMO

God I hate the DRL's, But I keep thinking they will save a little kid with a soccer ball, so I put the fuse back in.

^ that goes back on the parents not keeping an eye on there kids.. its a love hate i have with the DRLs i like them cause its nice for that security you are talking about.. but the hate ways more, its not a separate bulb so you cant swap an led in it to help the lumination. it sucks battery life if you are parked and want to listen to the radio it also sucks the voltage while driving.. people will argue the BUT IT SAVES LIVES crap but if an idiot cant see ya coming with lights on or off then they shouldnt be on the road

I really appreciate the info, and have a couple more questions, this is my first car im kind of trying to change up so im a noob.

So if i am understanding correctly, i would not be able to run HID on my DRL.

Also, I am not able to just switch out the OEM DRL bulb for a bulb of my choice? such as hoen xenonmatch H11?

Finally, if the above 2 options for DRL do not work, what are my options for changing my DRL to something around the same color as the OEM low beams, or around a 5-6000k bulb.

Lastly HID for fog lights will work fine? if so what are some of the other owners running? and any pictures

cant run HID as DRL.. the voltage is too low

H11 wont work the bulb for the highbeam and DRLs are the same which is a 9006

hid fogs are just fine.. i have some just havent installed yet been to busy.. if you go to my posting i have been doing you can see the hoens installed with the DRLs and highbeams vs stock https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...2&postcount=33

hope that solves your questions

Thank so much bluecarbonfiber..that was basically all i was looking for, i really appreciate it and really loving what you have done so far on the rdx.

HID fogs i have been looking at 6000k as well, what are the some of the HID's to avoid? or the best to get?

As for your Hoen high beam/drl, for hoen the 9006(9006 12V 80w) are the ones which would work?

I am on the Hoen website http://www.hoen-usa.com/high.htm and seeing all the options, would the Xenonmatch Titanium for example work? or is it only the 9006?

thanks again

This is not a typical mod for me, but the fogs on these cars are useless. Think I will do both rides.

Bought the Höen and HiD fogs. Going to spend the money now before my lady sees the Visa bill. Will pull that DRL fuse again. I don't want to burn out a $37 pair of bulbs lighting up my suburban streets in the daytime.

I disliked the yellow color the stock DRLs illuminated so i pulled the fuse. I wanted to have day time running lights for safety as well so i put in yellow/white LED switch back bulbs in place of the stock parking light/turn signals however the yellow for the turn signal didn't illuminate enough for it to be noticed from the front of the vehicle. I needed more visibility in the headlights and turn signals so I disassembled the headlights and wired in white/yellow LED switchback strip lights internally and set them up so when the "Parking Lights" are on so are the White LED lights. When you use the turn signal the white goes off and the yellow LED lights illuminate around the entire inside of the light housing and flashes with the speed of the turn signal relay. People see me coming and know when i am turning now ;-)

I agree that the Fog Lights are useless as well so i put in 3000k HIDs.
Hey "BlueCarbon" did U ever figure out how to have the fogs on with the high beams? or figure out how to turn off the Headlight HIDs and be able to run yellow 3000k HID Fog Lights only?... That would be ideal in fog and heavy snow.

^ Take some pics of that in the day light. I'm not sure how effective or bright those strips are from a distance in the day.

Pics that I took during installation of 55 watt 6000k HiD fogs. Think that was back in '09. Low beams also changed to 35 watt 6000k. Real DRLs installed later on, on the bumper. They are really bright.

I noticed that Ur factory fog light harness plugs are broken as well... WTF Acura??? I had a hell of a time getting the factory harness plug to accept the aftermarket HID and pointed them downward so water couldn't accumulate in them. The lights look good

Here is a pic of my DRLs in the day... They aren't super bright especially since its dirty (snowing here) and being on a white vehicle.

I think i would of just opted for the parking lights to be the switchback ones.. gonna start saving up for the V-led triton switchbacks.. cant go wrong with the.. one of the most powerful led switchbacks you can get and they are adjustable bulb so you can get more reflection

to add to the awesomeness of VLED they came out with these bad boys.. for highbeam and low beam lights http://www.vleds.com/catalog/product...category/1016/ Leds that are near the power of a HID kit per the vled facebook they are going to come out with an even brighter kit currently the max lumens is 2000lm

Yea it would have been easier however it was a new challenge to tear apart and install the LED Strip lights into the headlights.
I checked out those VLED HID DRLs however i couldn't find any specs that they will "Plug and Play" with the low voltage DRL system we currently have in our RDXs. Those 5k lights would be nice to run as DRLs.

yes you can run them they are low voltage to begin with so it would match it well.. DRLs reflect as much light as a parking light so you are better off just running a good set of parking lights

I had'nt realized that VLed had gotten so bright. Still though, I believe that HiD lumen output is in the 3000-3300 lumen range for the 6000k 35w bulbs.
I may just upgrade my switch backs to the brighter versions, cause i've had mine for over 3 years now.
Good stuff.

hid systems are plug and play too.. just a matter of how to plug those in.. these are more plug and play they come with a wire harness that plug into your stock one and one that plugs into your new bulbs
