Some turbo info

So I see you guys are looking more into the turbo now so I guess I'll post what I've found in case it is of use to anyone.

Mitsubishi is pretty tight when it comes to info about the turbo, but they sent me this. Pulled from a .pdf

I wanted compressor maps but this was the best they would give.

Our turbo had a few revisions over the years it was out. I have no idea what they were, but here are the part numbers for the interested.

From what I read on Volvo/Saab/Subaru forums is that the 18T is probably the best and safest bet when upgrading the 15T/G compressor housing. We simply run out of room. Here are some reference photos.

18T

There is a 3mm difference between the 15T and 18T wheels. Its cuts it kind of close to the edge of the housing walls. The 19T is another 1mm bigger than the 18t. It'll fit but needs to be precisely worked. The effort that goes into it for a potentially 5-7hp gain just doesn't support the risks.

Here are the flow charts. The RDX should have a better efficiency range based on what Mitsubishi claims, but it still serves as a good reference to the benefits of the 18T upgrade.

About 428 CFM max

485 CFM

The 19T does flow better than a 18T but not by much.

Keep in mind those are max numbers. You can theoretically get there, but the compressed air will be very hot and cooling will be very important. (as you get further away from the center "bubble" the air gets hotter because the turbo isn't compressing air as effectively causing heat to build up.

I'll post more links n pics as I go through old photos. Hope this helps someone.

Heh...seems it's essentially a twin scroll design that mounts to an undivided exhaust header due to the actuator valve. Neat design for sure.

Wow, interesting, but for me, I want to turn the key, press on the gas and go. Don't know the difference between a Twin Scroll or a Twix Bar. Ok, the Twix Bar has some sugary caramel in it. I still haven't really seen the Dyno stats on the Flashpro, CAI, and new intercooler, and maybe new exhaust. Does anyone get over 300 hp with all of those?

Hopefully people know I am joking. I enjoy this forum. the most I do to a car is change spark plugs and fluids (except Brake Fluid). Am wanting to do some mods to the RDX once the warranty runs out though. But cutting the turbo fins, putting ice on the intercooler, wow, you all get serious. I think the car is fun to drive stock. So with numbers, how much more HP and Torque does someone get if they put it all together?
