RDX Big brake kit

Hi guys... i recently purchased a RDX for my wife to replace our X3. Coming from BMWs.. the Acura's brakes are just poo. My wife is allowing me to get a big brake kit for it but I have been unable to find any kits out there. Any have any ideas as to where to look? Or try some EBC pads, SS lines, and maybe some sort of rotors? I rather the BBK!

Thanks!

most def go with those upgrades first. many times that's all you need to feel the difference  Even the fluid makes the difference

MMike1981 11-27-2007 02:00 PM

What fluid do i put in the RDX...super blue? any difference in type? i think the fluid change with a brake pad change will cut the mustard without having to overhaul the system

aznbo187 11-27-2007 07:24 PM

ATE Superblue, or Motul 600RBF. I haven't heard anything but good reviews for the ATE superblue, and I personally have the Motul in my car. It has a slightly higher boiling point than ATE if I remember correctly. That couple with some nice pads and some SS brake lines, if there any out for the RDX should be a good start.

I can't even find any brake lines out for the RDX...are there any available?

Cool to know that i'm not the only one that would love to have bbk on the rdx. I've done the research and contacted some companies who produces brakes. Only one of them got back to me with the specs and price. " (revolution brake LLC) that custom makes BBK for any car. They replied back with the specs and a quote on the custom kit.

Dont' be shocked to death now... they quoted $8,100.00 on the following:

front: $3,951.57

14"x1.25" 2 piece rote with aluminium hats, WILWOOD GN III 6 piston calipers, custom caliper brackers, pads, SS flex hoses, hardware and instructions

rear: $4,150.76

14"x1.25" 2 piece rote with iron hats to accomodate OEM e-brake, WILWOOD BSL4R 4 piston calipers, custom caliper brackets, pads, SS Flex hoses, proportioning valve, hardware and instructions.

Total: $8,102.33

This is VERRRRRY steeeep for an upgrade, but these brakes WILL make the vechile's stopping power like the way it should be (performance league).

For those that have that kind of money right now, you can contact them at 541 488 5638."

Honestly, I think it's overkill. Especially if your not going to track your car, a good set of pads, stainless steel lines, and brake fluid should greatly improve the braking efficiency. I mean...the brakes can't be THAT bad, can they?

cwepruk 11-28-2007 04:24 PM

The brakes are fine to me and stopping distances are decent. Unless you are hotlapping the car, I fail to see why anyone would need more.

If it's a feel thing, just swap out the pads and fluid and go from there.

U3270 12-20-2007 11:45 AM

can you use ridgeline rotors

U3270 12-20-2007 09:54 PM

I looked into using Ridgeline rotors for the size but the bolt patter is off.
Ridgeline 5 -120
RDX 5-114

ReverendOlaf 01-03-2010 01:07 PM

Anyone try 3G TL or TL-S rotors? They're 5-114.

I'm still not having much lucking finding much of substance for the RDX. I've found one set of coilovers, a few intakes, a couple cat-backs, of which neither seems available, a a legendary down pipe + mid pipe cat delete setup that seems to be doomed to be a one off. At least there is a Hondata ECU upgrade available.

I'd love to drop it 1-2", have adjustable coilovers (perhaps with in-car adjustable dampers), upgraded brakes, and get a decent boost in power via ecu/piping all for less than the custom BBK price.

Don't mean to revive a dead thread, but the s2000 has the same bolt pattern... Any thoughts on getting that to work?

BU 01-17-2012 08:10 PM

Yes
S2000, RSX, TSX complete BBK will fit RDX with custom caliper bracket spacer.

That's how I transfer my old TSX BBK onto my wife RDX.
I don't have a chance to take picture of the spacers, all I can tell you are it cost $200 for me.

Can you post some pics of the setup? And where you got the custom spacers?

Mr Marco 01-17-2012 08:52 PM

Lockwoods price on the Rotora is better than my local guy's (by about $300). Although I would recommend getting both F&R sets. Otherwise brake bias may be off.

yes please! details on the caliper bracket. Any issues noted with the master cylinder? different volumes, etc?

BU 02-15-2012 08:17 PM

My lazy effort from yesterday.
Project Mu BBK for S2000/RSX TypeS/TSX from my JDM day leftover.
As I mentioned, my local shop custom made a space to fit it ($200)
A bit dirty because I hasn't car wash for almost 4 months... :what:
