RDX ATLP Exhaust Starts Here!
We had to redesign the muffler internals since this application requires a sideway entrance. I wanted to make sure that because of the unusual mounting of the muffler, that the flow would not be affected by sharp turns and also be able to maintain the same diameter inside the core.
If all goes as planned, we will have a finished prototype early next week and if the sound and power feels solid, a video and dyno will be scheduled shortly after.

Va Vroom!!
Wow! This is so exciting! It even sounds pretty good on my tinny little speakers on my work computer, and it looks nice too. Couple of questions, is this with the stock intake, or the cp-e intake? Is there any drivability issiues, or any weird droning or resonances? Keep up the good work, and I'll be patiently waiting for final production. Take care.
meh... doesn't sound like it's much louder than stock. I hope something was lost by listening to it on my laptop. I was hoping to hear something like a Subaru (also a 4-cyl turbo) exhaust, which is low toned and very mean sounding. This sounds like any Accord exhaust I hear as I drive around urban areas.

No drone, no drive ability issues at all. This is actually perfect in a sense that we were able to accomplish all this without a resonator. After the first batch is out, we will get some free time to do the downpipe, which will add some noise and more power for those who want a bit more sound than this adds already.

gotta be honest, i was hoping for something more here...BUT, without question this is an improvement over stock...just wish you guys went for something totally away from stock(sound, snap, droan) than keeping it close to stock. was lookin for more of an FX-35/45 sound in that regard.
good job tho, might still consider it after maybe a dyno & price. hopefully you guys have specs without the cpe intake.

You could deep have a nice deep growl from a 2.4L 4 cyl. This is too high-pitched and tinny sounding for my likes

Will work on it. I'll see what can be done.

I've found a lot of exhausts in the past which offer both a resonated and non-resonated mid-pipe, so folks can have the option of quieter or louder...
Also, if you are thinking about doing headers or downpipe, that'll certainly change the exhaust note, too.
here's what I personally would like...
I forgot which car it was, but it the exhaust system remained quiet until a certain amount of revs hit. then it had a very nice grumble sound. i would LOVE to have this, as it can be in my control.
IE. driving under 3000~ revs around the city it's nice and quiet, mild noise maybe. anything above that it's a a G35!
anyone get what i'm trying to say? a "low profile" exhaust would be sweet.

Today, we had a secondary down-pipe fabricated and installed. This deletes the secondary cat (highlighted in picture) of the RDX with a straight pipe. This will not throw any CEL's as it's after the sensors.

My impressions: The ATLP Cat-back alone was pretty subtle. Not for everyone. It was definitely better than stock (with it's non-existent sound), but it was sporty, but not aggressive.
With the secondary down pipe: It's definitely an improvement. Noticeably throatier outside, deeper, and more crisp. Best part is interior noise hasn't increased. The inside cabin video is a bit deceiving, but it's much, much quieter than the CP-E intake. Much!
Here is the video clip of the ATLP Exhaust and the Down Pipe installed.

There is one more option. The RDX has two catalytic converters. The primary one is right after the turbocharger, (1st picture - Turbo, 2nd picture - Primary Cat (connects to turbo)), which is a huge bottleneck! Not only is the pipping relatively small, but the immediate angle restricts a lot of the Turbo's efficiency.
Here is what I'm pondering about. Eliminate this primary converter right after the turbo, eliminate the second cat, and put in a high flow metallic substrate cat where the 2nd cat used to be. This allows everyone to get rid of that bottleneck from the primary cat, while still being able to have a catalytic converter present.
Anyway, give me some feedback, good or bad we'll try to work this out.
One more thing, FX35 sound won't happen on this baby. I4 just doesn't sound like the 6 cylinders do. But we'll make it purrr in other ways!

My thought would be a nice, straight down pipe with a close coupled cat so that all sensors can still plug in and reach with existing wiring and so no CEL's are thrown.
The stock pipe looks horrid for flow.
Sounds pretty decent for an I4. Not sure it's going to get any better, though quieter is better for me.

The sound is very subtle inside the cabin and not intrusive, AT all. I'm biased on intakes, and I really think the intake sound is too overbearing in comparison. Outside it's not obnoxiously loud at all. One of the reasons I didn't want to go with a 3" is because I also want to keep in mind the sound image that the exhaust "speaks" in relevance to the type of car.
WOW. What's the pricing on this whole set up??
Here are some pictures of the Cat-back system.

Looks like a mini Infinity FX from the rear.

Details. All stainless steel construction.

Brushed canister, satin finished pipes, and polished tips.
I'll have to look into that. The owner of the car didn't have one so we could not check. If anyone os in So.Cal/O.C and has a hitch installed or off the car, please let me know if you can I can stop by to take a comparison look.
THanks,
Mike
