Intake

Hey everyone!

I received my new intake from TheWrench116 that he had offered to fix! I originally had the knn intake but realized that it was just sucking in hot air from the engine bay cause my car to feel bogged down. When I noticed this TheWrench116 offered to help me and make a custom bend to allow the intake to be mounted in the bottom front of the engine bay. This then allows the car to have fresh cold air in hopes to make more power! Below are some pictures. I would highly suggest that anyone who has a short intake like mine should get it extended. I would contact TheWrench116. Ill post more pictures once its installed but the welds/paint job came out amazing! Thank you again!

Does that mean the CPE one is sucking hot air? It extends further than the K&N and is slightly lower than the battery, instead of sitting on top of the engine bay. But Josh is great. Wish I had his mechanical skills, alas I am just a weekend hacker.

Message Josh! I think he had made an extender for another member with a cpe intake. Don't quote me on it though!

To answer is it sucking in hot air i'm not sure. Do you feel like your car boggs down the longer you drive?

Also another thing to help make the air even colder is cleaning out the intercooler. Its not that hard to take it out and then spray some meguiars wheel cleaner and then hose it off. It makes a world of difference when its clean. Car gets its power back to!

if you compair the k&n and CP-e to the stock setup they are both hot air intakes.

looks good wrench nice job getting your foot in the door for more options =) now you just need to make a custom piece that goes from the bov to the intake that bypasses the box the factory puts in to reduce sound =) id like to say it also causes a slower reaction but I cant prove it

Nice work Josh.

Mmmm, cold dense air! It's like the difference in pull you feel on a cold winter morning vs a hot summer afternoon.

Another issue that saps power is ic heat soak. Is there a cheap fix?

they say the proof is in the pudding. would you be willing to get the car dynoed with the hood shut as it normally would be during driving? one with the short ram and one with the extension?

My CPe is sucking hot air. With current outside temperatures, my IAT is around 90 degrees at speed and up to 110+ at idle. Not sure where that temperature is measured though.

that temp is measured just below the throttle body on the intake manifold.

Wow, so even after going through the intercooler it's still that hot. Makes me wonder how hot the actual air coming in through the filter is.

my personal setup and testing is that running a cold air or stock is worth 10-15 degrees cooler air VS a standard CP-e or K&N . and powder coating or painting the intake manifold is worth another 5-10 degrees. I'v had cruising temps of ambient too + 5 degrees.

With that being said, are you using any particular generic kit for the ones you're making, if you're making them?

That one with the crinkle black paint, which I thought I saw you made in this very thread looks really nice and I'll probably travel that same path. When time comes I hope to exploit that Blouch tubro too.

I just picked up my RDX a few weeks ago and I'm already in love. I used to own an RSX Type S with Honda, I/H/E and love that thing too, so this RDX to me is reminiscent of that car and an old 90 Bronco 2 I used to own which was my first car.

Anyways, I've lurked enough in this website to find a message in which you shared your number so that people could holler at you. I'll likely hit you up once I'm ready to do some things, do you do shade tree mechanic work?

Ok thats what i was seeing that there is only Short Ram intakes and ill never waste money on them , there good for sucking hot air only lol. To bad Injen didn't make one for the Rdx. This post may say this already but you guys that are making intakes are you using 2.75" or 3" pipe? Im not sure how the rdx is set up but my k20 had one sensor on intake which was both intake air temp sensor and maf sensor..Is placement of this on the Rdx critical? Most of us k20 guys ran calibrations off the Map sensor but vit viper eventually switched everyone over to running off the Maf sensor..
Right now im looking to buy a 2009-2012 Rdx but i really want a black one. Ive been reading on these pages alot about the Rdx so this forum has been big help.
