What fog light protection film to use?

Has anyone had any problems with there fog lights being cracked by debri? I know this is common problem with the TSX and other models, just unsure about the RDX since it sits higher. I use yellow Lamin-X on my TSX and they've held up fine. I thought about going with the clear Lamin-X on the RDX if needed. Anyone have any other recommendations?

P.S. I'm using an HID kit in the fogs so heat will not be an issue.

I took a rock or something into one of my RDX's fog lamps, so they aren't immune.

Found out that you can't replace just the lens or just the lamp. Acura makes you buy the mount, lamp and lens as an assembly. If I remember right, the assembly lists for about $150.

So yeah, some kind of protection is needed, but I haven't found it yet.

I ended up going with the 12 mil thick clear Lamin-X since it's worked for me in the past. I had some thicker stuff that I had bought a while back from Griot's Garage, but it would not adhere well enough to the contour of the foglight.

Yep, that's what you've got to do. I just bought like a 8" or 6" x 12" piece. It's enough to do the pair several times if needed.

I went through several fog lights on our 04 Accord when we had it. After that, I always bought some sort of lens protection film for any vechicle thereafter.

So if your fog light breaks from a rock that's not under warranty? I guess it makes sense but that's a bummer.

Don't know if this helps, but I found and ordered a set of HID Blue headlights and foglights covers from headlightarmor.com that are specifically cut for the RDX: http://www.headlightarmor.com/acura-lighting-kits.aspx

I'd offer to post some pix after I slap them on, but I don't have those privileges yet...

new foglight covers

So while I'm waiting for my ecu reflash and my ride was immobile, I got decent weather today and decided to slap on the HID Blue foglight covers (pretty straight forward, ~ 5-10mins/light) and took a few pix. Defintiely notice a difference with the lights OFF (think they pop really nice IMO), but I'm not seeing a big difference with the lights ON (oh well). I'll try to take some pix at night after I get my ecu back (hopefully tues )

I'm not sure what the measurement is, they actually have them custom fit for the 07-09 RDXs: http://www.headlightarmor.com/07-09-...ting-kits.aspx

I ordered both, but haven't applied the headlight covers yet. I kinkda like the contrast between the headlights and the fogs. But I really should put them on for the protection factor...

Some tips about installation that I found helpful (they come with instructions):
1) Warm up the covers w/a hairdryer if you can. Easier to work with.
2) Be liberal with the water pre-application, especially on your hands.
3) When applying the cover, "Center" them by eyeing the distance at the edges, leaving equal distance all around. Squeegee the center.
4) Turn on your foglights. This will allow you to take your time as you start to squeegee the cover on. They will not get hot to the touch, but are just warm enough to allow you to manipulate the cover as you squeegee.
5) Be persistent w/the squeegee. Especially at the edges. You'll start to see where you have slack and where you need just a tiny bit more. It's not going to slide, but it will strecth a lil. I'd say "medium" pressure to get good coverage, but you'll still have a small gap around the outer edge, which is barely noticeable.

Also, here are a few pix at night with the foglight covers. Very slight difference when the lights are on...

...oh, and your fingertips and thumbs work great for those slightly stubborn final edges, as well as pressing and holding with a clean dry soft cloth (microfiber recommended) over the squeegee. Also turn off your headlights as you get close to finshing so the adhesive can start to set as it cools.

Does anyone use anything to 'maintain' the film on the fog/ headlights? The place that put film on my lights sold some expensive 'conditioner' that is supposed to help keep the vinyl film from deteriorating. Anyone use some common vinyl liquid, such as Armor All or other type of vinyl conditioner? or a special conditioner? like what? Thanks.

All I use is a little bit of Woolite and water to clean (10 to 1 water to Woolite), and 303 to protect the film.

I have only had my film for about 3 weeks now but am hopeful that they stay in good shape.

Just regular 35w and not the 55w ones.

Just did my fog-lights with Venture Shield (now a 3M product). It went on dry very nicely with a little help from a hair dryer.

I went to a local custom graphics guy and he sold me a roll of Venture Shield scrap from one of his custom jobs. It has cut-outs in it, but enough large pieces to do fogs and head lights on 5 or 6 cars. Got it for 20 bucks.

Just placed an order for this stuff for my RDX. Seems to be the best to use rather then the paint protection film some places use.

The graphics guy recommended Plexus Plastic Cleaner (available in motorcycle shops) for Venture Shield. At $10 to $12 for 7 ounces, it may be the expensive stuff you are talking about, but it should go a long way.

3M says just wash and wax it along with the car. They are testing Meguiars for an official recommendation.

Just ordered the fog light covers, it's gonna be some time before the weather warms up enough for me to install them, though.
