Roof rack
I am looking to install a roof rack onto my 2010 Acura RDX FWD. I've heard mixed review of the OEM roof rack. What do you suggest for the best value in quality, looks and price for a roof rack?
I am looking to use the rack for skis and snowboards. Ive heard of other good brands such as Thule, INNO, and Yakima. What all parts do I need to purchase if I purchase an after-market roof rack? Any and all help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

We have the oe rack on our '11. It suffers from not being able to move the cross bars forward. It looks like they limit the bar travel to prevent the sunroof from contacting the forward cross bar.
This makes the bike holding part I have used on previous racks , called a biketight - useless.
Previously I mounted the biketight into the track (under the rubber close out strip) on the forward cross bar and the front fork into the biketight. The back tire would be strapped on top of the rear cross bar.
With this set-up the bars can't be far enough apart to allow the bike to line up with the cross bars.
Don't know about how well it works with skis/boards.

Take it from me, the factory rack is a big let down. If it wouldn't have been such a hard month for the family budget, I would have bought the Yakima system in January and tossed this OEM roof in the trash.
It doesn't have the compacity or flexability to make it worth the money. Yakima is $600-1,000 depending on what you want.
My choice for bikes+skis would be:
But you could spend way less.

halbert,
As far as recommending one, it depends on what your needs are for the rack.
My rack needs are for basic utility, bikes, and a canoe.
Acura sells optional mounts for the above.
My only complaint with the oe rack is the distance between the bars is limited, and closer together than I need. (due to unequal length)
With our last roof racked vehicle the cross bars had quick releases and were unlimited in for and aft movement. Much better.
As far as skis and boards, your needs - I have zero experience.
Look at the rack and accessories on the Acura web site, and see how they function with skis and boards.
The oe rack is priced ~ $600.
