Rear brake pad replacement
 

Hi guys, I'm replacing both front and rear brake pads.

Front went fine, rear is a huge headache. For the last hour I have been trying to get both rear calipers back onto the bracket and neither are going on. They are both within an inch of getting on. Seems like something is stuck and preventing it from going all the way down, but I can't tell what.

I was surprised to see the rear brake pads are held into the caliper with the three prongs. Never seen that before. When installing the new ones, I couldn't just put the pads on like usual then pivot the caliper down. So I put the back pad into the caliper with the three pongs and it clicked into place. But now I can't pivot the caliper (with the pad inside it) back down.

Any tips?

I changed my rear pads a couple of years ago and they were a breeze, so something is off here. Are the caliper pistons pushed in to allow spacing for the rotor? Are the rotors seated properly? I used stock pads.

Yeah the piston is compressed all the way. The caliper pivots almost all the way down, but the last part just isn't sliding in.

Think I'm going to try taking off the top bolt of the caliper too, instead of just pivoting it down.

Ok well that worked! Just removed both caliper bolts, wiggled it and slid it into place. I guess since the pad is already in the caliper you can't just pivot it down. Even though that is the method the Acura shop manual instructs.

Yes, I had fully removed the calipers. Now it is more clear to me what the issue was - glad you resolved it.
