How often do you have oil change with AMSOIL?
 
According to the AMSOIL Synthetic Oil description, it says it will last for one year or 25,000 kms. Those who uses AMSOIL Synthetic Oil on the RDX, how often do you change your oil? Or you still stick with the RDX's indicator which will light up with 5000-6000 kms...... Do you think I change it once a year if I only drive about 10,000 to 15,000 kms per year.

I heard Mercedez or BMW uses AMSOIL for oil change and they mostly change once a year but they are not Turbo engine.

Amsoil SSO 0w30 is very good oil but about extending oil change interval, I would only do it if I did a UOA and ensure I can do double the mileage.

I would use Pennzoil Platinum over Amsoil if you follow the MID, its cheaper and readily available.

Walmart has it for 21.88 here in Canada.

I forgot to check which AMSOIL my mechanic used (just started using from last oil change). I just remember on the oil, it says 1 year or 25,000 kms.

By the way, if I use AMSOIL and do not follow the MID. Would the dealer void the warranty? The MID pops up for oil change roughly every 6000 kms.......
Someone told me MID can be reset easily myself. There is not data saved in the system for the dealer to know if I didn't follow, is it true?

Thats true you can reset the mid.

1 year or 25k could be either SSO or ASL. ASL is not HTO-06 certified and nor is SSO (no amsoil oil is certified) but amsoil states SSO will work in the RDX fine.

ASL should as well, its great oil as well.

But I certainly wouldn't run it for 25k especially in Canada and especially in a turbo motor. 12-14k max and a UOA would confirm that.

I use Amsoil ASL for my Civics and change every two maintenance minders (about 14k miles). Thinking about doing this for my RDX but hesitant since it has a turbo. Anyone out there pushing their drain intervals with positive results?

As with any other synthetic oil, 10,000 miles on a turbo engine is probably appropriate until you have some UOAs run.

That said, with a really good synthetic I would still recommend changing the filter according to normal maintenance schedule. On this car that also means draining the oil, so if you're wanting to just turn around and pour it back in I suppose that's fine. As long as the additives in the oil haven't broken down yet, you're good. The oil itself will last practically forever. On my old car I had a top-mounted paper filter which took about 30 seconds to swap out. I changed that every 5k and the oil every 10.

Why change the filter so often? I ask because there is typically a very negative benefit (i.e. a detriment) from changing the filter too often. Unless the filter is clogged and going into "bypass" mode, there is zero reason to change the oil filter as a filter with say, 10,000 miles on it will filter WAY better than a filter with 0 miles on it.

I use Mobil1 or pennzoil platinum, whichever has sale/rebate. Last one was pennzoil platinum $12 after rebate. You don’t need amsoil, waste of money. Your engine will not have oil lubrication issues from m1/pennzoil.

What is the problem which changing it too often? this is the first I've have heard anyone say this.

I've always heard that a good filter isn't that much compared to your car, so spend the money and change it as required.

That's a good philosophy in general when it comes to lubrication, being that oil has a somewhat linear curve in terms of effectiveness as it ages. I'm over the top about ATF changes for example. The old stuff I drain out probably has thousands of miles of life left in it. However, filters don't really degrade in a linear fashion. They work pretty much just as well as day 1 until they become saturated, or blocked up enough for the pass through to open.

I used to test water filters. The cleanliness of the water never changed, even when the filter became saturated - it just resulted in the water flowing more slowly. Obviously in that case, there was no pass through after saturation. But the point is that a filter still blocks everything even as the filter media becomes saturated.

So unless you're oil gets dirty really quickly from blowby or bad piston rings, changing a higher quality filter like a Mobil 1 or Royal Purple in between changes is going to have negligible advantages.

The problem with changing too often is waste of resources and money; as I wrote before, there is exactly zero benefit from running through say, three filters over a 15,000 mile OCI, versus say, a single filter for that entire time.

Yup, most of my cars over the last 25 years have come with the stipulation to change the filter every-other oil change.

I’ve been using m1 filter and changing it every other time, no issues. I am sure m1 filter can take even more, it has 20k guarantee

I change my oil and filter according to the mid. If it
says change oil soon I schedule an appointment and just do the oil and the filter. It’s not a big deal for me to change the filter along with the oil. It’s worth the peace of mind to me.

High performance turbo applications deserve extra care. Especially if your driving them hard and modifying them.

There is absolutely zero benefit of changing m1 oil filter every oil change. The owner manual specially wants you to change it every other time. Waste of money and resources.

Putting cost of m1 filter aside ($10+), I really dont want to change oil filter when I dont have to do it. Oil change without removing oil filter becomes quick and less messy.
OEM filters can go two oil changes, and Honda filters are not the best.... m1 is guaranteed for 20k miles, and with two oil changes you only looking at like 12k miles, well under it capacity

Do what you want it’s your RDX and yes a clean filter will flow better than a clogged filter...

Nobody has advocated operating with a clogged filter; the argument, a valid and well documented argument by the way, is a used filter will provide superior filtration with no loss in flow than a brand new filter.
