How long is too long without an oil change?

I have an 8 month old 2009 Acura RDX. I don't drive much, and I have only put about 4500 miles on it. The oil gauge is currently at 40% remaining. Thus, I have never had an oil change on the car. I know I'm supposed to "listen to the computer", but at this pace I may go the entire first year without an oil change.

So should I be getting one done soon? Wait until the 1 year mark? Wait until the computer tells me to?

Thanks!

You need to wait specially if this is your first oil change. My dealer told me that the first oil they used has some kind of additive for breakin period. after your first oil change you can oil change whenever u want.

Your car will tell you if you need A1 service or B1.

It's not about saving a few bucks in the least, it's about doing what is "correct" for the car.

Thank you - that's more or less what I was wondering about. Would you still say I should wait though even if the car doesn't tell me to get it changed after, say, 1 full year?

I also use my RDX for pleasure driving only and it took me 8 to 10 months before i had my first oil change. once it hits around 15-30% oil life your service reminder will show on your dashboard.

If you will ask me ill just wait for your car to tell you if its needed for an oilchange, they design it for that coz you will never know what service to be done, if its A1 service or B1.

B1 is more expensive i believe.

My first oil change took close to a year to 0% on minimal driving. I am still on my 2nd oil change with about 7780 miles on the odometer, 40% remaining. Just follow the maintanence minder.

I drive hard most of time. I change my oil with mobil 1 every 1500 - 2000 miles.
Oil come out dark. I'm Auto ASE Certified Mechanic. I don't pay for the oil change.
Just change oil every 3000 miles or every 3 month.
SHAWD every 15000 miles Tranny every 30000 miles Transfer case gear GL5 oil every 30000 miles.
