Using Torque app as boost/EGT/etc gauges and scantool
Great Android app, I just had to recommend it. Connects any vehicle's OBDII port via bluetooth adapter. It also works as a scan tool. I had a check engine light on and this thing allowed me to check the fault code/detail and clear the code.
Torque Lite (free) https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...owl.torquefree
Torque Pro (paid) https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...e=related_apps
Bluetooth adapter
I'm looking to get a cheap 7" tablet to mount in my RDX. At the moment I'm using the app on my phone which is mounted in front of the speedometer (screenshot below).
The Torque app shows the following info on my 07 RDX:
-Air fuel ratio
-Barometric pressure
-Exhaust gas temp (catalyst temp)
-Engine coolant temp, load, RPM
-Fuel level
-Intake air temp
-Intake manifold pressure
-Mass air flow rate
-Pedal/throttle position
-Speed (GPS, OBD)
-Timing advance
-Voltage
-Volumetric efficiency
-Acceleration (x, y, z axis)
-Time/Distance/GPS (0-60, 1/4 mile)
-Power (hp, tq)
-MPG
The boost, AFR and EGT gauges are invaluable. The EGT gets up to 1500 degrees on boost and helps me know how long I should let the turbo cool down before I turn off the engine.
More values can be added via Honda/Acura extended PIDs. I'm looking to add accurate transmission temp, fuel pressure, oil temp/pressure values so if anybody can help please let me know. Thanks.

Doesn't effect the phone bt when I am using the app.
It will stop the app and go to the call instead.

With my rev/iphone set up, w/gauges on get a call it switches to bt-hfl. When the call ends the home screen for rev is displayed. You have to tap the button to go back.
I have tried to post data here but the format is jumbled after I paste it.

I would think that the ECU knows the oil pressure/temp so we can pull the readings via extended PIDs instead of adding sensors, but looking at the parts diagram for the oil pump I don't see any sensors.
Fuel pressure and tranny temp would be more useful IMO.
I got a 7" tablet and mounted it above the stock display. Screenshot below.
I don't have the Tech pkg so I can't comment on using it with the OEM bluetooth. I use the Scosche bluetooth AUX plug instead for audio/phone (another device I recommend ).

Thanks.
I posted the Scosche unit without bluetooth A2DP audio. Here's the correct link to the Scosche bluetooth unit that plays audio:
The Transmission temp is showing a reading but the values are identical to the Coolant temp so I don't think it's working correctly.
If anybody knows info on Honda/Acura extended PIDs, then that could help us pull more data like VTEC, current gear, etc.

I agree that gauges are a much needed mod for the RDX, and I'm still working on adding more.
^BH - I'm not sure if you could compare iat before and after the gasket because the iat is affected by so many variables.
If the ambient air temp and rh and bp are all exactly the same, engine load and so many more variables all still factor in as well.
May see the before and after gasket diff/temp the most in sustained boost runs where the heat would build up much higher.
Heat soak?
Either the track or long uphill mountain roads?
I'm still trying to understand how IJ is getting what I can't have.
Whaa!
I tried to find a egt sensor on an '07, don't see it.
Is this maybe a virtual sensor using the pid feedback from some points to estimate egt temp?
Either way, me want go there.
Sniff...dabs tears...

Yes.
I'm working on an ice box for my K&N short ram. Maybe I'll try out the intake manifold gasket after. It seems easy to replace as I don't see any coolant jackets.
I'm getting my EGT and AF readings from the A/F sensor. If I had the secondary O2 sensor installed I'd get readings from that too. The values are there, your developer just needs to add them to the app. Are you able to add extended PIDs in that app?
I get major heat soak with my K&N short ram. At highway speeds the intake temp would be 90, but at a stop light after some hard runs the temp can go up to 140.
The sensor name I'm getting my EGT readings from is "Catalyst Temperature (Bank 1,Sensor 1). Maybe that'll help your Rev dev.
#3 and 4 seem like oil seals
#12 seems like some kind of oil pressure switch
#11 is a knock sensor and we need that reading via extended PID!

Thanks so much for the help IJ, first I need to complement your sweet set up.
I'm slaved to apple compatability, so I drool over a maxi-pad and mount. Some day.
brought to you by: Apple Maxi Pads
I'll keep working on devtoaster to wring it out.
I remember they had a help forum that I need to find again?

So Rev2 Hi-$ iphone App Sucks Dog Balls? Time to bail?
Still no reply to emails to devtoaster, the developer for rev.
I'm in for $200 for the transmitter and $50 for the app.
I need to re-think my drink.
IJ,
Nice. Looks like you are displaying ~ 20? Is set up easy?
Below is from the wifi transmitter mfg PLX backing up what you had said before...
Hello,
I have an '11 Acura RDX using plx kiwi-wifi + iMFD. For now, no inputs to iMFD. I am using the Rev2 app on iphone 4s.
Another owner of an '07 RDX is using android phone and torque pro app via bt.
He gets readings for afr and a temp reading for Catalyst Temperature (Bank 1, Sensor 1) standard with his setup.
With my setup I see no afr and no temps for any exhaust points.
Can these points be displayed in my setup thru more work or upgrades by the developer? (w/o input to iMFD)
Thanks...

Unfortunately, Rev2 does not support custom PIDs. It is possible to add support for additional PIDs if the developer chooses to do so.
There may be other iOS apps that offer those PIDs and customizable PIDs, which would allow for reading that data if that information is available from your vehicle

Yes, setting up Torque is easy and there are lots of advanced options. You might want to try Torque and get a dedicated device like I did.
The developer for Torque (Ian) has responded to all my e-mails within a day. He also has a website and forum dedicated to the app at http://torque-bhp.com/.
Torque (paid) only costs $4.95 (Rev costs $39.99)
The bluetooth adapter is only $23.99
Most 7" Android tablets (Nook, Kindle Fire, Samsung Tabs) are $250 or less.
(Beware of Samsung as their bluetooth drivers are modified and have issues. Samsung says they are aware of the issue and will release a fix. I have to pair my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 each time but it's so worth it.)

Update:
My new setup. The tablet was redundant as I had to maintain/charge multiple devices. I have since used my HTC EVO LTE phone and mounted up higher.

^ This scanner is kind of big, I've already kicked it twice when going for my ebrake. I'm tall and have big feet, so this might not be a problem for others. But I use my ebrake every time I park the car so it's kind of a pain to be careful each time I set the ebrake.
This one looks much smaller, I may try it out.
I'm using the first adapter I posted above ^ along with a jailbroken iphone and dashcommand. You have to get roqybt4 and obd4(included with roqy which is $6) in order for your iPhone to see the bluetooth adapter. So in the end it's a $70 solution for getting instant readings from your car.
Sometimes it's spotty, but for the most part it works. I'm going to end up getting a DM6 combo from PLX to have a consistent true AFR reading though.

I know this thread is pretty old but Im trying to choose which one to get because apparently its just luck of the draw with these things... If anyone has experience with one of these and the Torque app please post which one you got. If not I might just buy a couple and see which one works best.

OBDLink MX Scan Tool
Check out OBDLink MX Scan Tool here:
http://www.scantool.net/obdlink-mx.html
Its $150, but WELL worth the money, its has very fast refresh rate on the PID and just plugs into your OBD2 (no wires or bumping with your knees). I just leave mine plugged in all the time. Their battery-saver feature allows you to leave it in without danger of draining your car’s battery.
You can also download their free OBDLink Android app here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....OBDLink&hl=en
I can read code, clear them, run diagnostics, setup a dashboard, a map that records your speed of travel, and monitoring of pid's with data logging. Pretty handy tool all-in-all!

Here's a screenshot of my current setup. I modified the colors to match the RDX guages.
I'm not sure if I'd pay $150 vs $20 for a bluetooth OBDII adapter. The one off Amazon is fast enough for my usage.
The Torque app is worth every penny. I've gotten my money's worth for sure.
I use a magnetic mount for my phone which looks great and works well with my Samsung Note II. No need to mess with clamps and it mounts in any direction. The suction cup is also sticky so it sticks to the textured dash on the RDX.

Reviving this thread a bit. I just picked this up on Amazon and couldn't be more pleased:
Amazon link:
It's surprisingly small, here it is next to my key in comparison:
Tried it last night on my XFR and it works great. It's also so small that there is really no danger of bumping it with your leg, in fact it sits up in the OBD plug area out of sight. I've got to rearrange the gauges on TorquePro on my new phone and set it up for our RDX as well. For $13 you can't go wrong! Important to note though, this does not turn itself off with the car so make sure you unplug it after use.
I'll try to get a profile set up for the RDX and take some pics on our day trip today. At some point I might hook up an old Nexus 7 we have as a display in it but I'm not that worried about it because my wife won't really need to be using it much.

I ended up driving there and back yesterday so I didn't get to play around much with the interface but it works smoothly and beautifully on the RDX. Here are a few of the default outputs that I tweaked around a little:
Here is about halfway how I would want it to look after playing around with it while drinking my coffee this morning (unconnected to ECU, so I'm not sure if it will read oil temp or not):
That's displayed from my Galaxy S4, so I've got room for two small sized gauges on the "home" screen. If I end up installing one of our tablets obviously I could play around with the larger ones. Just need to plug it back in and figure out two more parameters that I want to measure on this car....I would love to get EGTs but I'm not sure if I can get them off of this car either. Once it's 100% dialed in I'll have to post back up again. Definitely a worthwhile investment though!
