I was looking at the DICE units when I got my RDX, but the local installer said that there were electrical incompatibilities that caused the units to seize and require unplugging and replugging. I haven't called back to check in a while as I started listening to DVD-A instead, but I'll check again on this unit with my installer.

One question I still have is if it is possible to have Nav Traffic which comes from XM with this (or the similar Neo model) installed. That would be nice, though I've currently let my Nav Traffic expire while I try to convince XM to offer a promotion on the Traffic alone...

Dice Electronics website mentions a newer R4 version of that product, but can't find anywhere on their website that sells it.

I would love to have Nav Traffic only. I didn't like the XM stuff, I only listen to news/talkshows and sports on the radio. The news sounded like they were talking from a tincan and they only have redneck sports. I hope they do merge to get some better programming and sound quality.

By the way I found out through an email that the i-HONDA-R4 that is mentioned on their website is just a bundle of the i-HONDA-R3 G2 and the splitter cable for the navigation system.

Any updates from anyone who has installed this device in an RDX?

How well does it work?

Does the "text via XM" feature require you to give up the Nav Traffic as well?

I believe you have to unplug the XM receiver altogether to use text mode. My guess is that would take away Nav Traffic.

Thanks Gil,

I had speculated that as well, but I'd like to see some confirmation. In another thread you mentioned that you hadn't set it up yet for text mode so it sounds like we are both still speculating...?

I know that you have to unplug an XM cable, but is that the only cable coming out of the XM system? It could just as easily have one cable going to the stereo for the radio part (which is the cable that must be unplugged) and another going to the Nav system for traffic. On the other hand, the description of the Y cable implies that both Nav and audio signals go through the same connector, so I'm not hopeful...

Then allow me to answer
If you want text from the iPod, you cannot have XM connected. Otherwise the kit will work exactly the same.

If you disconnect your XM, you'll lose traffic display. There is only one wire in the harness.

The Canadian RDXs don't come with XM - would I still be able to get the text display?

I'd have to guess no since you don't have an XM button on your head unit.

It may still have the software for XM loaded into the radio and that would be enough. If he's willing, I'll sell him a kit to see what happens and return it if it fails.

software or no software, how would he select the ipod adapter to play through his head unit? He has a CD/AM/FM buttons. Do you still hit the CD button to change to CDC even with the text capability? I just assumed that you did everything through the XM button if you have text displayed. Please feel free to give us some specifics on the operation of the adapters. That would help a bunch.

You would use the CD button since that also cycles the XM on and off on US-spec cars. US ones have one button that goes CD/XM/AUX and the Canada one again have one button for CD/AUX, but Honda may have still loaded the same software for US models in the Canada models and simply didn't print the XM symbol. Since Honda isn't telling us anything (typical for car makers, no matter how good of terms you are in with them) we just have to try it out and see.

The kit fools the radio in thinking there's a external CD changer (CD mode, which does not have text) or a Satellite kit (SAT mode, which will have text) So what I would like him to do is install the kit, switch it to SAT and press the CD button a few times and we'll see what happens.

The head unit in the RDX does not function this way. It has a separate XM button to get to XM. The CD button does not cycle to XM. There are three buttons "DISC/AUX", "XM", and "AM/FM". "DISC/AUX" cycles through CD, CDC, and Aux.

Right, but they may have loaded the same code as did with US Honda's. Their CD button is like the RDX but it also switches to the XM. Has anyone tried hooking up a XM reciever yet? The theory could still work.
