HID fogs
HID fogs
Have any of you guys put an HID kit for your fog lights? Is it easy? I own a 2005 TSX, but this kit is going into my gf's 2007 PWP RDX. Thanks in advance. Pics would be great too.

I know I'll get bashed for pointing you in the direction of cheap...but for $29 bucks with lifetime warranty...you can't go wrong.
DDMTuning dot com ...check it out...it's called the raptor kit.
I have their bulbs in my low beams to match my self installed fogs.
My gf has them in her low and fogs as well. I think it's great and increases visibility a LOT.

Okay great. Next question. To match the color of the factory HIDs, did you guys go with 4300k or 5000k? I noticed that the HIDs on the 2007 RDX seem to have a little more blue tint than my 2005 TSX, which almost seems to be yellower at 4300k.
Where did you mount your ballasts? Did most of you guys just crawl under the car and plug the kit in from there?

mine are all 6000K and look very white...w/a hint of blue, which I wanted since sometimes I felt the OEM bulbs weren't blue enough.
I would recommend going with 5k to match if her bulbs are bluer than your 4300K.
Take off your front wheel or just cut it to the right (or left) and take out the screw and a few clips and pull back the fenderliner to access the fogs. That's how I've done it at least.
55 watts will not melt anything I don't think because stock bulbs are usually 55 watts...but there are concerns with cheaper kits having 55 watt bulbs with a 35 watt ballast or somethign like that. Mine are all 35 watt kits. Plenty of light.

Yes the manual says that you are to remove the headlight which entails removal of the bumper. I dont think that you can get to the low beams without moving the whole light, is a very tight fit!

All honda/acura bumper skins come off very easily.
Although pretty tight...I was able to carefully access the rears of my low beams from inside the wheel well. Took the wheel off, pulled the fender back and was able to get to mine. I would be surprised if any of the other HONDA designs were different as I've used this approach for my gf's 08 accord and my friend's 06 civic.
You WILL need a security star shaped tool...in all reality you can probably use pliers to get them off...disconnect the battery too to be on the safe side. They sell the tool I'm talking about at Advance auto...it's a hex shaped screw head with a thing sticking up so it has to be a special one. Not rocket science at all.

Good luck!

Anyone want to make a DIY?
haha.
I think I'll go with that DDM kit, guys on tsx club also have said this kit is great for the price. What size bulb did you go with? Did you buy 4300k or 6000k? Did it match well with the factory HID?

^If I would have read this first I would have made a DIY. I just replaced the stock D2S bulbs with 85122CM bulbs(5000K) and installed a 5000K HID kit in the fog lights on our 2010. You do have to remove the bumper to change the low beams which intails removing the bumper. All of it was relatively easy. The fogs came out a bit more blue then I wanted (closer to 6000K) but oh well they light up the road nice.
Stock low beams are 35w D2S. In order for you to use 55w D2S you would have to use an aftermarket kit and eliminate the factory ballasts and ignitors which I wouldn't recommend.
No, I actually took the whole front bumper off. I had to do this to change the lowbeams(D2S). Changing the lowbeams requires taking off the whole headlight. It really wasn't that bad and it gave me an opportunity to mount the ballast in a hidden, secure place.

Unless there's a huge difference between 3rd gen TL's and TSX's I will continue to urge you to do it the easy way and take off the front wheels and pull back the fender liner.
Just installed the DDM tuning Apexcone 4500k 35W HID fogs in my gf's RDX. Couple of observations and suggestions for future people thinking about installing HID fogs.
1) The DDM tuning 4500k is significantly bluer than the 4300k OEM. So they don't match. So if you want matching HIDs, find a diff manufacturer that sells 4300k. DDM offers a great value, $29.95 for the kit, but again, it doesnt match OEM.
2) The kit itself is great, however the power cord clip is of crappy quality and broke on both ballasts. I ended up taping the connection up with electrical tape to insure a seal.
3) Bumper removal is among the easiest and is the best method. I rate my mechanical ability about 5-6/10, and I used the DIY pdf for the front spoiler to help me take off the bumper. Taking off the bumper allows you better access to mount the ballasts, which I did to the frame.
4) Keep track of the short clips and long clips, put them in area where you won't lose it and keep track of which clip goes in which hole. Sometimes all plastic clips aren't made alike and one won't fit into the whole as well as the one it originally came from.
5) Remember to tuck the black plastic fender behind the bumper and really push the clips back in. It's harder to get it in than getting it out.
Thats all I can think of at this moment. If anyone else has any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Very good review...
I would agree with everything you said. I guess at that price though, I don't leave a lot of room for complaining. I didn't have the mismatch issue because I ended up just buying a set of low beam bulbs from them to match the HID kid at the same time...that way it was uniform.

Hey, for those who bought the DDM kit, did you have a hard time screwing the HID bulb in the foglight housing? I tried for like an hour or so. I couldn't get the bloody bulb locked in. Then I tried with the OEM bulb and I didnt have any trouble. Any suggestions guys?
I mean I'm just saying.
Anyways whatever man, I guess thats up to the Moderators
