Cancelled XM Radio + NavTraffic
Cancelled XM Radio + NavTraffic
I just canceled my XM Radio + NavTraffic service. I received a flyer for the $77 deal a while back so I signed up and got the NavTraffic as well. That was 5 days ago.
Ever since, I've been trying to get the XM radio to activate without success. The last straw was today. I used the automated service to send out the refresh signal before I drove home (~30 minutes). It still didn't turn on after I arrived so I said screw it and called XM Radio to cancel.
They re-sent the signal, but I was done. I've been driving everywhere with for the past 5 days without music because my radio's been stuck on the XM preview channel. I wasn't going to waste even more of my time trying to activate it again.
I know that XM can cancel your service without the radio being on XM. It only makes sense that they should be able to activate your radio without it being tuned to XM as well. Of course, they'll disable your service with 100% success the second your service expires. XM should try to make their activation process more reliable and less painful. Then maybe people like me won't get frustrated and cancel.
I had the same issue during the trial period. It took ~2 months before I was able to get the service finally turned on. I didn't care too much since I wasn't paying, but they ticked me off when I talked to them. If I'm paying for service, then I WANT the service and won't wait/pay for 2 months for XM to get their act together.
XM/Sirius you lost me as a customer FOREVER. The customer service rep said he'd extend the service until the end of the month, but I'm NEVER going through the hassle of activation ever again.

That sux. Sometimes you get a bad customer service person, regardless of the company you are dealing with and their reputation.
I could not fathom driving without the Boneyard, so I will have XM in every car I own from now on....regardless of what tool takes my order.

Wouldn't you know it. So I cancelled my XM service about 2 weeks ago because it wouldn't activate. I got my CC bill and XM didn't credit my account! I just called them up and they said they're going to send a report to their billing department to process the refund. Just remember: you can cancel the service, but that doesn't mean they're going to be giving you your money back without you jumping through hoops. Me: I want the service. XM: We want the money. Me: I'll pay if you give me the service I ordered. XM: We're not in the service industry. We're here to collect your money. Ridiculous..

Although I wasn't a lifetime subscriber, I did agree to extend my subscription based on the understanding that I would get the high quality online stream (128K). I even called before extending to be sure I understood the offer correctly. After weeks of them telling me that I would get the 128K stream eventually, they finally told me that all I was entitled too was the basic 32K stream - a downgrade from what I had before (64K). A bunch of us made a big stink with corporate and they finally gave in. Whether they gave the premium stream to everyone or just to those who complained, I don't know.
Incidentally, you need to be a premium subscriber to use the iPhone app.
If you weren't part of this originally, I don't think you'll be able to get anything out of them.
