2009 RDX Navi is terrible!

I just bought a used 2009 RDX and I love it except the navi!!!! It looks so outdated!!! Would it help if I update it to 2012? Or does the new one have only updated addresses, and not a new interface?

catnippants 02-04-2012 08:25 AM

Updating the disk won't help - only the data has been updated.

mrgold35 02-05-2012 09:53 AM

You have to update to the 2013 RDX if you want to improve your Navi graphics. I think Acura is still another 4-8 years away from 3-D 45 degree view Navi systems that show buildings like you find on hand held devices and luxury auto brands.

Our Navi is less fancy as mapquest page you print on an ink jet printer. :ugh:

Glad you posted this about the graphics. I was fixin' to get the 2012, but I can wait.

@mrgold35: do u mean to say that 2013 DVD will have better graphics? Or do you mean 2013 Rdx navi system as a whole? If upgrading to 2013 DVD on 2009 screen is what u are talking about, then I can wait one year!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's more of a firmware issue and you won't beable to upgrade to a 2013 DVD.

You can get new maps, but the 2009+ screens will be the same.

You are stuck with the current look of your Navi until you trade-in your current RDX for the 2013 model. The all new 2013 RDX will have an upgraded Navi system:

-full VGA screen
-Hard drive (no more slow DVD ROM drive like the 07-09 RDXs)
-real time XM weather
-real time XM traffic
-Pandora internet radio interface
-Multi-view rear camera
-Bluetooth streaming audio
-SMS text message function

I think the Navi graphics will be only slightly better than what you find on the 07-12 RDX. For what-ever reason, Acura is comfortable being in the middle of the pack or slightly behind with technology compared to other luxury brands.

Yea, get a Ford Escape if you want state of the art navigation and rear seat vents :)

I hate the fact that this is a true statement. :yuck:

JMJ3rd 02-13-2012 10:32 PM

Oh well...just new maps for me. :ugh:

mofreckles 04-17-2012 10:20 PM

B E W A R E !!!
I just had a huge battle with Acura & XM - I was not getting traffic incidents!! Regardless of what year you upgrade to - If XM has no service in your area - you won't get anything. It turns out - DESPITE the coverage area XM provides - yes my area shows covered - we do not have service at all. It seems NYS DOT needs to install sensors for the service to get proper traffic updates. Been paying for the service for 4 years - it has been an obscene experience.

I just got my 09 rdx tech and i have to admit the nav doesnt even seem as nice as the 2010 Pilot touring, and the 2012 mdx advanced blows both of those away. im running the 2008 disc turns out. does the 2012 disc improve anything other than the maps? my main question is does it put the markers in the rear view camera display?

No it does not.

musty hustla 08-09-2012 06:50 AM

hopefully someone on hackura will figure out how to update the firmware

markmass 09-20-2012 03:05 PM

The nav data was severely out of date in 2009 RDX when I bought brand new. I figure the 2012 nav upgrade will bring you up to 2009, but I'm wondering how up to date it actually is.

I use my phone or computer for navigation. I used my RDX nav system to tell me when I am while driving.

justnspace 09-20-2012 03:08 PM

GUISE, the hardware is the limiting factor.
not the disk.

1rdxbandit 02-27-2019 12:45 AM

I updated my maps on the Rdx to 2018, the interface did not change.

CSmoney28 03-07-2019 10:18 PM

The map updates only update the new road names and directional routes along with some other minor stuff. I always do it every year anyways here’s the link:

Super bump...

Anyway... I like the graphics on my 2007 RDX... It's all I need! :)

CSmoney28 03-08-2019 08:00 PM

Haha, I know...it’s all I need too. I actually think it’s was less distracting than any other gps I’ve seen.

schen72 04-03-2019 08:09 PM

Acura has finally entered the modern age with the navi and infotainment in the 2019 RDX. I imagine it will filter to other models they get their next FMC.

CSmoney28 04-05-2019 09:29 PM

Fmc...?

FMC = full model change (2019+ RDX)
MMC: mid model change (cosmetic and sometimes minor tech updates)

The nav on the 2019+ RDX has finally entered the modern era and is on par with other modern cars.
