Yakima Whispbar

Looking to put a roof rack and cargo box on my '09 RDX for upcoming road trip. Tried to stuff everything inside for last yearss trip and my son was not very happy in the back. In fact if my brother hadn't taken my beach chairs and coffemaker in his minivan I would have had to strap him to the roof.

Anyway, I don't think I feel comfortable installing factory rack myself. Was on Yakima site and in their 'fit my car' it came up with Whispbars. Looks like 2 bars attached to the roof spaced out enough to then attach a cargo box.

Anyone here have any experience with these?

Thanks in advance.

I'm a Thule guy, but they all work very similarly. I don't have experience with bars, but I got my cargo box from REI. They are pretty flexible with returns, so if something doesn't work you won't have to "fight them" to take something back....even after years of purchase.

Do not feel intimidated installing the roofrack on your own. I installed mine and it was not difficult at all. The only part which took me a bit of time, was sawing the trim pieces. If you take your time and not rush it, you will do fine. I did it in about 2-3 hours.

wrestrepo, I have an REI nearby so I will go to them and take a look. Was on rackattack.com and able to compare different racks. I like the look of the whispbar S26 as there is nothing sticking out of the end so it looks flush.

chipmunk, I am not sure if I want factory rack for the 2 or 3 times a year I might use it. One long trip to the back and maybe taking my son snowboarding a couple weekends in the winter. Like the ability to take off when not using and the seeming ease of installation.
