to those who are still curious

just put in a new stock engine filter today.

immediately noticed: woosh sound gone. sounds like a different car.

Ill update here after i drive a few tanks with it. I take out the K&N for the winter, call in personal preference, i just feel better with the thicker stocker in there with all the sand, salt and garbage from NE winters.

Keep us updated, I'm keeping the K&N in since it doesn't get that bad here in Oklahoma.

I finally did change all 3 wiper inserts earlier today to prepare for this winter.

I live in Cleveland and have used a K&N drop-in in all of my cars since 04. Never a problem here and we get pounded by salt, snow, and "grime". I don't want to lose the positive effect the K&N has on my cars, plus I think that if we trust it to filter in the other seasons, why not trust it in winter too!

yea, like i said, its just what ive done in the past

all i have to say is, what proves the K&N filter? Use one for a while, THEN TAKE IT OUT.

im not jumping to conclusions yet, i want to run a few tanks thru, but...i may put it back in for this winter, i dont like the car with it out....more later

I agree! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

As for the K&N, I also removed mine for the winter period last season but this winter I'm planning to leave it in. Maybe it's a placibo effect but the RDX seems more responsive with the K&N in as well as I like the added "whoosh."

i wrote about this last year...but having it out reconfirms everything i thought last year.

Throttle tip in is more sluggish, the car feels duller on its feet, no placebo effect here. I know my ride. i drive every day, same drive, 5 days a week. Im not one on this board to over hype or understate observations just to tailor them to my liking. i state the obvious, and take on the back lash from doing so.

Like in the other thread where i was stating the driving mechanics are different; they are. And the conclusion i have always come to is that MY main noticeable benefit of K&N is the cars initial throttle response/power delivery. I have consistently noticed those differences, and the K&N improves drivability, picking up the extra MPG is an added benefit. The filter helps in responsiveness....i cant say what that means in terms of HP, or numbers that affect performance nor do i care if they even change...with pedal depression in stock form, i get the familiar feeling of increased non linear responsiveness and delayed reactions....the K&N improves the RDXs power delivery & throttle responsiveness.

Like i said, you may not notice these things having the filter in for a long time, but once you take it out...that is the real test. ive run through 1 full tank, and the last few days i feel like ive caught the engine off guard when with the K&N it would have more immediate reactions; quick highway accels, passing, merging etc...i punch the car now i can feel the engine stumbling a bit and the spool is not as quick

I totally concur with mikes observations. I don't see extra mpg or measurable performance but throttle response is much much better and more linear with kn

1/2 way thru second tank....city mileage has dropped under 17, and cant get highway above 19. Trip computer hovers around 18.8 on the highway...like true stock form, once im in the city, that number drops dramatically quick. o well

i havent seen city mileage drop under 17/18, ever, with the K&N in. Since the computer is sometimes erratic...i usually just go by how many miles i can get to a tank ... ive never filled more than 15.5 gals to my tank, but i never let the light come on. so, with the K&N, im usually around 300 per tank so overall my mpg is usually a bit above 19mps to a tank w/K&N. i cant see this tank hitting even 260. the anomaly is that im 75highway/25 city & on track in getting under 17mpg to 15.5 gal fills. this is nothing unusual, to me, but proves another K&N benefit. No matter how you slice it, city driving crushes mpg, fast, so that 25% is a significant value, hurting mpg even when the K&N is in...where i cant measure power in any possible way, i can measure mpg and theres just no denying it (in my car at least)

shell v power, same station, same pump most of the time lol

Just to clarify, are you talking about the K&N Typhoon or just the K&N filter for the stock box?

I have the K&N Typhoon installed on my RDX (I love it!) and after doing a bit of reading I was wondering what your thoughts are to keep it on during the winter. I live up in the great white north and winters here are harsh, and as one poster said they worried about the extra salt and sand used on the roads in winter.

Is this something to be concerned with? I'd hate to take it off as I just love the 'darth vader' sounds LOL

Thanks!

I ran my K&N all winter and it was pretty clean. I find there is more dust/pollen/bugs in summer. Most road grime doesn't float in the air, so the filter seemed to stay cleaner.
