Should I take my 2008 rdx to the dealer for everything?
Hey guys,
I've had my RDX for about 6 months. Ive had B13 service (~$400), B service (~$100), and now I'm in for another B1 service (~250), and have been told that my steering and transmission fluids should be replaced (~$250).
I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to cars, and I just want to make sure I Am maintaining my vehicle properly.
Do most of you take your car to the dealer for everything? Or is it better to go elsewhere for some things (oil changes, fluid replacements etc.) also, if I take it to another place for an oil change, will the service reminder reset itself?
Thanks!

I have an 08 also. I have about 85,000 miles and some of maint I do myself or take other places around town:
- Discount tire for lifetime rotation/balance
- Firestone for lifetime alignment (I have Eibach springs)
- Purchase own motor oil from Wal-Mart for dealer changes (cost $28 at dealership for oil change, filter, and car wash)
- Purchase cabin air filters from Wal-Mart or Amazon and change every spring
- I have an K/N air filter I clean every year
- Interstate battery with +5 year warranty (replaced OEM that died in the middle of the day last year)
- Replace windshield wipers once a year (more damage from dry weather & sun compared to wear)
Here are the things I go to the dealership for:
- 5AT flush every 30,000 miles
- M.I.D. services not covered above
- Any work under warranty (flaking clear coat on front bumper, bad front speaker, mis-aligned front driver fender, condensation in driver headlight, and replace bad vtec solenoid)
The only thing that wasn’t covered by the standard Acura warranty was the brake booster sensor ($300). The rest has been routine service or normal wear/tear. Very reliable vehicle.

Do not take your car to the dealer for every single maint issue. Unless you live in Egypt, there are plenty of good freelance mechanics who can do the necessary work.
