Just checked ebay. Looks like there is only 1 listing for $11.99. Must be the same one. Could you please let me know the quality of the contents when you receive it. The seller doesn't show a sample page. Tks.

Tools needed:
  • Serpentine belt tool (Snap-on YA9317 or equivalent, Autozone has loaners)
  • 14mm (I think) 12-point socket (12-pt gives you more working angles than the 6-pt socket)

DIY instructions:
  1. Move auto-tensioner with belt tension release tool to relieve tension from the drive belt, then remove the drive belt.
  2. Install the new belt in the reverse order of removal.

IJ, thanks for posting the info direct.

Besides stretch and cracks to look for, there is also belt wear and a tool to gauge the wear. It's just a small piece of plastic made for each size of belts. The notches in the plastic match up to the grooves in the belt.
As the belt wears out, the check tool is put into the grooves, the gap between the two gets bigger and the belt loose grip. If allowed to slip too long then you get to replace both the belt and pulley(s).

Thanks for posting, Infamous.

Here is a dumb question: Why can't I use a breaker bar with socket instead of serpentine belt tool?

Looks kinda of tight there will see if I can get a 1/2 breaker bar in there with reducer 1/2 to 3/8 with socket, serpentine tool seems thinner .

Tks!.

Just drag and drop to My Library in iTunes amd sync to your iPad. You will need to download the Apple book app first. It will then appear under the PDFs section.

Thanks Sin, PDF looks much better on iPad and much easier to navigate, pulls up directory while you have the pages open , what a joy! Now I can tear up my wife's rdx apart if need be.

I read a lot of PDFs and was cross-shopping btwn an Android based tablet or the iPad. I loaded the same PDFs on a 10.1" Galaxy, 10.1" Tranformer Prime, and Gen 2 & 3 iPad at Best Buy. I went with the Gen 3 iPad because the screen ratio was closer to a piece of paper than the widescreen format of the Androids. I do like the ease of file transfer more on the Android.

I'll go and get the service manual. Very reasonably priced. Tks for the heads-up.

She's super tight down there!

A serpentine belt tool helps a LOT. Autozone loans them for free (deposit required of course).

I had to change my belt at about 150k because it was getting super loud. It didn't look bad but was kind of cracking on the inside. I knew it was the belt because some soapy water on the belt temporarily cured the squeaking.

That's a lot of mileage on the same belt. What other items needed to be replaced between 75k-150k?

Just did the belt with my neighbor's assistacne. Powerbuilt serpentine belt tool did not work but using a 14MM combo and 16 MM combo wrench did. See pic , rather ghetto but it worked like a charm.

Bought Bando serp belt ( OEM supplier ) from Amazon.

I don't know if it's the original belt or not.

The water pump might need replacing.

I usually change all fluids as preventive maintenance and replace things when they break.

Is anyone aware of, or has tried the Gates brand High Performance Automotive V-Ribbed Belt p/n K070680RB with the BLUE stripe? Supposed to be better than the OEM or standard belt: longer lasting and stronger.

http://www.gates.com/part_locator/in...cation_id=3002

Not available for all model cars, but am wondering if it is really better than the Acura OEM belt? I have used Gates hoses and belts on my Chevy. Interested if anyone has used Gates on their RDX.

I cannot determine from the (tiny) picture whether the 19mm or the 14mm is the socket end. A 14mm socket is required to reach the 14mm bolt in the RDX tensioner pulley, because the bolt head is below the edge of the pulley face. So a flat head wrench will not work on the RDX.

Probably one of the following will work:

http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/kd3680.html $80

http://www.tooltopia.com/assenmacher-hon1419.aspx $40

Please report back here with how well it works.

For other readers, I found the KD3680, as indicated in the first link of my previous post, at SEARS for $60, actually the least expensive price I found for this tool. However, I have not tried it - but any readers may wish to examine the tool first-hand.

Schley SCH10950 belt tensioner tool Worked like a charm. I replaced my failing tensioner and put on a new belt. I highly recommend this tool , best 63 bucks spent.

Good - but can the 14mm end easily reach and firmly connect to the tensioner pulley bolt? even though the bolt is recessed inside the pulley? Perhaps the actual tool is not exactly like the pictures I have seen. In the pictures, the tool appears to have a 19mm socket on one end, but a flat closed wrench-head on the other end. Is the 14mm end 6-point or 12-point? thanks for any reply.

I use the KD Tools GearWrench 3680. It fits squarely and securely on the recessed pulley bolt.

It's also a great tool for difficult access areas; as well as turning nuts on long shafts. It has all the common size, metric go-through sockets and several crow's feet.

14 mm end is 12 point , it fits perfectly , firmly connects to 14 mm bolt. I will take a photo of 14 mm end.

After hours of trying Harbor freight belt tool, same as OEM Tools basically, the 14/16 mm wrench combo saved the day. Thanks
