Question Removing Side Mouldings? Running Boards

Hi Guys -

If I put on those side mouldings and decide I want to remove them, can I have them removed without damaging the body or the paint??

Same question for the running boards I guess - are they bolted onto the undercarriage, or the actual vehicle body - I wouldn't want any bolt marks or holes left if I picked these up and decided to take them off.

Those accessories cost a fair amount of money, so I wouldn't even put them on the car unless I was absolutely sure I wanted them. Every dealership I've been to has a demo with all that gaudy stuff tacked on. Should give you a good idea of what it will look like.

I believe the side mouldings are attached with adhesive, so they probably could be removed, followed by removing the adhesive residue.

The running boards can be easily removed. As you suspected, they are attached to the under body frame.

I took my running boards off about a month after I got the RDX home. They came off easilly with just a socket wrench.

the side moulding should come right off. just like debadging a car, some dental floss a hair dryer and some goo gone, and you should be good. They don't screw or bolt on so there will be no holes in the door.

and as already stated the running boards bolt on underneath on holes that are already there. so no ill affects if you remove them....

Clay will get any residue off, and if you can follow the relatively simple instructions you won't damage the vehicle.

I think they look good too, but they hit my calf when I exit. I am fairly tall so it helps on exiting only. That is why I removed them, no other reason.

I think you are spending way too much time worrying about accessories. In fact, you're spending more effort on the accessories than I did on the RDX itself, and it took me 4 months to decide!! Unless you have money to burn, don't bother with the accessories until you are sure. They are easy to add at any time. Removing them after the fact is not a good strategy in your situation.

You guys are great!!

Yes, I'm way-yyy tired of thinking about accessorizing this thing, plus I don't like the idea of it sitting out in the cold and snow at the dealer's while I sit and stew.

The pic of the silver RDX is awesome - and it helps me to see how the mouldings should be installed in the first place (right up against the texture line across the door panels) - in another post, someone noted that their mouldings weren't installed right initially.

And, BTW Ravmother - yes, you're right - I love the look of the boards - and I would love to have them. I've just been hearing a lot of negative feedback on the boards (i.e. that they get in the way) - even the salesperson tried to dissuade us from picking them up, saying another customer already came back to have them removed.

I'm short though, so there's a pretty good chance they'll be okay with me.

Thanks everyone for responding
