Regular gas
Hello, I have 2209 RDX turbo for about a year and I am putting regular gas in it. There is no problem with the engine. Should I continue using gas 87 or should I change to premium gas93. Thanks

I did not know that I suppose to use 93 octane. Somebody just told me yesterday.book says to use 91 and up Gas but sometimes you can also use 87 octane. My question was, is it better to change now and use 93 octane or stay with regular gas because nothing happened so far.

then start using 91+
again, despite our advice....you are going to do whatever is convenient to you. that's JUST human nature.
so, you can either FOLLOW the owners manual by putting in 91+
or keep using the regular gas, like you've always been doing

I don't know if you have a Sam's or Costco near by; but, their gas prices for 91 octane can be within a few cents +/- of 87 Octane at a corner gas station. The $50 yearly membership price I have pays for itself just in gas savings with 3 cars alone. I even plan my trips out of town and set my Navi to Sam/Costco to re-fuel (plenty of parking, clean bathrooms, cheap snacks, cheaper gas compared to exit ramp stations).

I drive a 2012 RDX and 91 octane is required and is printed on the inside of gas cap cover in big white letters. I have a cousin who used 87 octane in her 2003 MDX and ended up ruining the engine and causing it to burn a quart of oil every 300 miles or less. She bought the MDX with 77,000 miles and previous owner used premium and she drove it for another 40,000 miles using 87 octane to save money. Go figure!

my wife has 05 mdx we got with 12k miles on it in 07. We have 182k on it now and only run 87 in it with no problems other than 1 O2 sensor replaced at 120k. No engine ping or knocking .
i also have 2000 TL that has 330k on it. I ran 87 till 270K then I switched to 91 non ethanol due to warm engine starting issues. Never had any engine knocking with it either .
i know neither are the Rdx turbo motors but both are vtec that manual says 91 octane or more...
i think the thread question is just asking if people have intentionally or unintentionally put 87 in and if so did they have problems ??? I'm pretty sure he or she can read the manual and do as it says . If we all did that then forums may not be needed....

The knock sensor hears the knock way before you could and pulls out timing preventing knock, and at that same time you lose power and fuel efficiency.
Saying there is no knock or ping is not applicable. You would not be aware if it was knocking.
You clearly don't feel premium was needed.
So jpelizza one question...

maybe he does not care about his car and will just dispose it.
RDX has high compression turbo charged engine, putting regular long term will cause damage.
Manual is also clear that using lower octane gas will cause permanent damage to the engine.

I think it's Acura's fault. Stating that Premium or 91 is recommended and not required can cause unnecessary confusion. They should clearly explain if they meant regular/ lower octane now and then is ok but the risk of higher engine wear.

i tried 87, 89, 91, & 93 octane in my tl . I didn't notice any performance difference. 87 mpg combined was 24 mpg and with 93 was 24.8 mpg. At the price difference I ran the lower price fuel. Was that the right thing to do idk but I didn't have any issues till 270k . Maybe just got lucky ....
as for knocking king I would dispute your claim. Friend of mine has 2006 mdx and 87 octane he can hear the knocking of engine with 89 or better no knocking.

TL is not turbo, damage is not likely form regular gas, but performance will be decreased.
Rdx is high compression turbo, not only will it decrease performance but it will cause damage to engine.
