RDX tires...Re-visited

Now that we have had the RDX for a longer period of time, and many more people may have had to get new tires, I wanted to ask what have you gotten for a replacement, and your comments about it. Also, if you don't mind, price and place where you got them.

I recently got a set of 18" EOM wheels and I want to run all seasons on them (my car came with the 19").

I purchase a set of the Goodyear Assurance Comfortread in the OEM size to replace my bald at 17k miles OEM Mich's. I have been please with the performance of these tires over the last 6k miles. Ride is slightly softer and quieter. Fuel economy is the same. No problems with traction in all conditions. 80k treadwear warranty. I paid about $920 at my local tire shop (Mountainview in Waynesville, NC) for the set mounted and balanced with a road hazard package.

Thanks for the heads up on the Goodyear Assurance Comfortread tires. OEM Michelns have 25k and look like they are good for another 25k

If you have two sets of rims, why on earth would you even consider getting all-season tires?

Get snows on the 18s and summer tires on the 19s, you'll be much happier and end up with MUCH better rubber for each season.

I just got some 17" rims w/ Blizzacks from TireRack for $1,100...I can't wait to install them... Come spring, I'm getting some Max performance rated summer tires for teh stock rims... All-seasons have much fail as far as tires go.

Well, because most of the "cheap" snow tires I found were very aggressive (tire size is not too common), and I didn't want that...Also, I will be experiencing snow for the next two years and I will likely move to warmer climates, so it would be a waste of money sitting on my basement. Also, I have ALWAYS ran all season tires in my past cars (all Saabs) and they have performed just fine...I know that there is a great difference with the snow tires, I am running them on my current Saab, but I figure that the AWD will compensate for that....
All-seasons have much fail? what do you mean?

AWD doesn't compensate for everything, which is a sad but common misconception. Does AWD help you turn or stop? It does not. It just helps you go. Snow tires help with everything else which is more important than getting going.

As for All-seasons having much fail...just an internet dork manner of speaking. Basically all-seasons suck. They can do a little bit of everything, but they can't do anything well. The compound is too hard for the winter, so you don't get the traction that you should just on cold roads, nevermind ice and snow. It's too soft to be any good in the hot weather, they'll just get greasy and slide if you warm them up enough.

I just think that people underestimate the importance of good tires on their vehicles. It's the only thing attaching your car to the road, it should be treated as such.

I've been driving Subarus and other AWD cars for years, and once I had my first set of snow tires, I was hooked...I've never gone a winter without them in now about 10 years.

I hear you...I agree that AWD only helps you go (heck it makes it go with summer tires), also turn, but what I was saying is that I have done just fine with all seasons in FWD cars, and I would expect that the AWD does much better. I tried my first set of snows last winter and it is night and day, but if I move to Texas there is not much I can do with the snows.......
I will be moving to an area with "less winter weather" in a couple of years, and will be there for at least three years (military), it would not make sense to have snows if all I would get is a couple of flurries a season....If I was to stay in New England, we would not be having this conversation, I would have snows on!!!

All good points. But hey, you can always easily resell wheels and snow tires

And I AM jealous of you moving to warmer climates. If I could get out of this 30 year prison known as my house, I'd love to move to SoCal or even Austin or something...

Well, I am not thinking about selling them...I think that I will finally settle in New England, so I will need the extra set....

I have to say that running 18"s makes the car feel nice...If I could only get that ride quality with my 19"s......

yeah, generally it's not possible. You sacrifice comfort for performance. If you want to get rid of your 19's, I'll trade you my 18's. I was going to put 19s or 20s on it next spring, anyway.

No, I am not interested in trading, I already have a set of 18"....
There are two things, the stock 18" make the car look like any other RDX on the road....the Upgraded 19" make the ride stiffer, but feedback, looks and performance improve....
Unless you are prepared to carry motrin in the center console, don't go for 20"....the 19" are already hard enough....I would offer to let you ride in my car but I switched already....

Coming from the world of modified WRX's, RX-7s, S2000's, and now my second car being a Miata...I'm not worried about a slightly rougher ride in the RDX

Has anyone tried the dunlop SP Sport Maxx A1 A/S? I have had the yokohama advans since the car was new, they have held up well with highway driving. I have over 60k on them. The $165 price of the dunlops on tirerack is appealing.

Bringing this thread back up with winter approaching....

I understand the value of "snow" tires. just from my experience, driving FWD cars until 2005, when i started buying AWD trucks, i have never, ever, had a problem in winter weather. Over the winter I travel alot, from Maine/NH/VT for skiing, down on thru NYC, and i have homes in MA & RI. If i thought for one second that having to buy an additional set of snow tires would be the answer, id have already bought them,,,,but honestly, i know its better to be safe than sorry, but given the awd system, and the decent all rounders on the car, ive driven thru blizzards over the past few winters and have not had a single problem due to incapable tires. Im not saying it may be the smartest thing to do, but until something happens w/the stock on the car, I really dont see a need to swap out for snows unless you live in some serious shit winter areas.

so just from an added expense point of view, unless you really want them or want the additional security, not sure if id buy snows just to have them on there. I find the RDX especially quite capable of handling really decent weather...again im not denying what snow tires do, but from a practical standpoint, i see no problem leaving the all seasons on, as the majority of people do

All seasons really depend on the tire. I have Good Year Eagle RS-A's on my Maxima and they are junk. Garbage. I think I would refuse to buy another car with these on them unless the dealer swapped them out.

The Michelins on the RDX are very good and likely one of the best comprimises for all seasons.

I would simply look for an all season tire geared more towards winter than performance (Nokian has an all season tire). Tire rack snow/ice ratings might be a decent start.

yea good pt, it def depends on whether the all season thats on the car is in fact a SOLID all season tire...some suck, some are great, but since ive had the RDX, absolutely no complaints for it handling snow etc.

i would like to see a bit better wet traction, i find rain its biggest nemesis, but aside from that, good allrounder

the michy's are good...but WTF i had to replace one a few weeks ago....280 for 1 tire, and that was from a discount tire place.

well i got 3 of my tires slash the other day and and i replace them with Yokohama AVID V4S. all 4tires came out about a grand. went back to the dealer and redo my alignment and crap. the back was off and the front right was off. got the whole thing reset. the driving of these tires are about the same as the michelin pilots. i havent really step on it on turns yet. prolly will try it today.

^^ Where the heck did you get them? I bought a set for $650 out the door.....I like the ride and they have performed just fine...I was coming from 19"s, so the improvements/downgrades are very noticeable, I don't know how it will be from 18" to 18"

Don't know where you are, but in New England I found out that Town Fair Tire worked great for me....they price match anything (internet included) and also give you the road protection and all of that.....I will definitely buy from them again.

All i know is, regardless of how the Michellins stack up against everything else, i cant justify 1200 on tires give or take 100 bucks for the stocks...not gonna happen when i have to replace them all...especially when my TSW's 20 inchers w/4 tires cost around 1500.
